Can the child safety locks be removed on a 2001 v40 volvo so that the rear windows will go all the way down?

Try the settings on t he drivers door, you can turn off the passenger window controls there, maybe they are off.

Replace the mechanics. It is very easy if you take a look at some guide in a volvo forum.

Usually there are switches inside the door jam of the rear doors. Move lever over to use the child safety locks. Occasionally the drivers side window/locks master controls will have a switch for this also. Mike

Check the light socket with a 12 volt test light to be sure you have 12 volts to the light terminal and check that the socket has a good ground.Let me know if you need more help.MOE

Rear pistons need to be rotated anti clockwise when pushed in.
There is a special tool to do this with, but you could try rotating it with a vice when pushing them in.

This is a verry common procedure for cars with rear disk breaks.
Otherwise the handbrake would not work it they could push themselves in.
