Tranny stop slip would only work in an automatic tranny. Number 47, you are right on the money. :)

The only chance you have of not replacing the transmission is by trying a bottle of "Lucas Transmission Stop Slip". It may smooth things out for a while but its not a permanent solution. You can buy it at any auto parts store. Hope this helps.

There could only be a couple possibilities for this to happen. First, with standard shift transmissions the shifter linkage could be worn being that it only happens with 3rd and 5th gears, as this shifter slide works for both of these gears. If this is the case it is only a matter of visually inspecting the linkage for worn or broken parts and replacing them or adjusting the linkage which is the inexpensive fix that I hope you are looking at. Second, This could be caused by the syncronizers within the transmission are going bad/worn or broken. In either case the transmission will need to be removed and repaired or replaced which is the expensive route that I pray is not the way you have to go! I hope that this is some help.

1996 Ford Ranger xlt manual transmission can"t shift into 3rd and 4th gear

If it grinds when trying to shift, it is the synchronizers. Rebuild. If it pops out of gear. there is a plastic part at the top of the transmission that wears out. It fits around the ball of the shifter. It is two pieces. You'll have to remove the floor plate and pull it up to access the bolts to remove the shifter and replace those plastic pieces.

I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX with transmission problems, just did what you advised today; had it flushed & clean filter & added lucas (1/2 bottle). It's a little better but really struggles to get from...

Common problem with 92, 93 Honda accords. Shifting problems - get a used TCU unit from junk yard and replace yours. It should be under where the passenger side where they put their feet, pull the carpet back, you should see it. Easily replaced.

Transmission oil was low, so we added to fill level and it helped for 1st, and a little in 3rd, but still no 5th gear

Assuming this is a manual shift transmission then 5th has probaly melted due to no lube.5 th gear is smaller on the countershaft and does not dip into the sump as far.So it is the first to loose oil when trans is low.If this is a 5 speed auto like on the 04 up accords and odessy vans then clutches are most likely damaged.Either way you are gonna need transmission repair.Good luck!

Hard time getting car in gear

Sounds like your clutch may be in need of a replacement. If you cut the engine off does it go into gear easily? Then it's not the linkage.
