'04 Trailblazer. Indicator shows drive but it's not in drive.

'04 Trailblazer. I went to put it in reverse from drive, the shifter moved into reverse position, but the indicator showed still in drive. I shut it off, but couldn't get it restart as the indicator still showed it in drive. Had it towed to the nearest dealer.

The transmission range (TR) switch is part of the park/neutral position (PNP) and backup lamp switch assembly, which is externally mounted on the transmission manual shaft. The TR switch contains four internal switches that indicate the transmission gear range selector lever position. The powertrain control module (PCM) supplies ignition voltage to each switch circuit. As the gear range selector lever is moved, the state of each switch may change, causing the circuit to open or close. An open circuit or switch indicates a high voltage signal. A closed circuit or switch indicates a low voltage signal. The PCM detects the selected gear range by deciphering the combination of the voltage signals. One of these circuits it what is causing your problem but I hope this helps you understand some.

May be broken 4WD actuator (quite common) which has stuck between engaged and disengaged. Remove and inspect actuator, but first examine all linkage for damage or having come loose.

Adjust shift indicator 1999 ford ranger

it does sound like a loose transmission shifter

the shift linkage is directly below your auto transmission shifter. simply place in park, undo the bolt joining the shifter to the transmission, push on the transmission shifter at the other end so it clicks fully into park and tighten the bolt up hard. then check for normal operation.

just remember chances are when your pushing down on the shifter to drive that the direction your pushing at the transmission is reversed so park should be towards the rear of the vehicle and drive is towards the front. but may not always be the case. best bet is to get a mate to move the shifter up and down untill you see exactly what is going on, then adjust your linkage to suit.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XT with 4wd. I started to

sounds like you have a broken shifter cable.Go under the rig and shift the transmision manually.Put on the parking brake and on the drivers side of the trany should be the lever to move.Look for the broken part while you are there it will also help to locate the shift lever on the trany.

1997 t100 6cyl. 4wd. went through phase of actually having to put into drive to start. then had to turn ignition and move shifter through all gears until it started. now nothing. indicator lights seem to...

the shifter linkage has become loose or shifted and not aligning properly, truck will only start in park or neutral.
the linkage needs to be realigned and repaired. this should be done at a professional level. the alignment is critical, if it is near shift point it can pop from park to reverse, or change gear suddenly causing an accident or transmission damage.

I drove 12 miles with truck in foru wheel low and now it is stuck

you have to put the main shifter from park into neutral.
then move the electronic switch from 4 low to 2 wd.or the "auto" setting.
then move the shifter into reverse and back up about 10 feet.
put it in drive . good luck with it.

Wont shift out of reverse, but the shifter moves up and down freel

your linkage on the transmission must be off. try having someone move the shifter while you watch the linkage arms under the car on the trans to make sure its all intact. it could be a loose or broken bolt on the trans causing it to not disengage from reverse this will cause it to not start.
