Question about 1985 Ford F350

I just bought a 1985 F 350 1 ton truck, when it is cold the clutch disenguages fine, but when I run it 30 miles and every thing gets hot the clutch does not disenguage as i tv should

Sounds like the clutch slave on the side of the transmission is going bad or leaking.

I suggest that the self adjusting clutch cable / mechanism has locked - taking up all the "slack" you gave it.

Check for a ratchet arrangement behind the clutch pedal - or maybe in the cable itself. You may need a new clutch cable fitting.

check your transfer case switch on top of your transfer case.they get stuck sometimes.

Lifters are getting week. When tthe oil gets hot the oil get's thinner makeing it run more freely through lifters.Might try a bottle of sea foam . usually works well .

I'm sure you've checked the fluid level, I would first try bleeding the system to rule out any air pockets. It also could be a fluid bypass situation, especially if the master/slave are old or the cup seals have been exposed to contaminated fluid. The seals can become hardened over time and will not expand along with their respective bore when hot. The cure for that is replacement of the clutch master cylinder and/or slave. The master cylinder is a fairly easy task, but the slave cylinder requires removal of the transmission. Bleeding this system can be frustrating, but you should be able to find plenty of information about the process around the web. Good luck.

How far does the slave cylinder on a 99 ram 2500 diesel have to travel to disenguage the clutch?
might just need bleeding through more , check for any leaks etc on all connections,pipes etc

2002 montero sport, i am experiencing tapping/ticking noise in the upper head department of 3.6 v6 engine. i change my oil regularly every 3000 miles. i put in seafoam in gas tank hoping it would help...
hi putting seafoam in fuel will clean the valves and pistons over time to use to do lifters you need to add to oil measure out the right amount for the oil measurements on the can.. also the tapping is it more when its cold or just the same no matter hot or cold or is it more louder when hot. when was the last time the timing was checked, are you using 5w/30 or 10w/30 oil.

A symptom of a engine that is almost 20 years old perhaps 200k+ miles. Mine does the same thing. I don't know how accurate the dash gauge is ... but I haven't been worrying about it. I run 10w-30 year round. I've had the truck over 8 years and 120k miles ... still runs great and the oil pressure gauge works as you describe since I bought it. Unless you are sure you have serious bearing problems or whatever I'd just drive it.

I have a 1996 GMC 1/2 ton diesel with a 480 L transmision and when it's cold it will not shift gears and the rpms go high if i try to push it ,but when it's warm it's fine.
Since you didn't mention it and I can't just assume the first thing to check is fluid level. ATF expands as it warms up it could just be low on fluid. So warm it up and check on a flat drive way in park. Also, how cold is "cold" do you live in real cold like Alaska, or are we talking So. Cal cold ( 45f ) If it has been 30,000 miles it is due for a fluid and filter change and its a good opertunity to pull the pan down and see if there is any clutch material in it. Also, not that it matters but it is a 4L80 E transmission, it stands for: 4 speed, Longitudinal, 80 series, Electronic. Anyway, the 4L80E is a great transmission but you didn't say how many miles are on it. I have a one ton with 1175,000 and it still works great. so it depends a lot on how hard it is getting used as to haw long they last.

My 88" 2500 Chevy 3/4 ton will only run for about 30 minutes then cuts off, if I let it sit it will start right up and then do the same thing. is it the fuel pump relay or the pump its self
could be fuel related or i found a bad coil going out will crank and run about 10 miles till the coil gets hot then will shut of, wait about 10 to 20 min. to cool crank up and run some more ,check the coil, hope to help robert b.
