Hi,
Is the 3-button remote from Mazda too? If it is and it's from the same year range as your MPV it may work. In other words, many car makers used the same type of keyless remotes on all their vehicles in a given year range. But if the 3-button is much newer or older you're probably out of luck. You can search on Ebay to see what types of remotes were sold for your year car.

If this is NOT a Mazda remote and neither was the 4 button they may use a different frequency (think 'radio station') and won't 'talk' to the car's keyless remote compuer.

SOURCE: programming keyless remote

2003-04 Mazda 6 REMOTE PROGRAMMING

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and unlock the driver’s door using the power door lock switch on the door.

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.

Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) twice. Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

Good Luck.

SOURCE: how do I replace alternator in mazda mpv 2000?

Typically an alternator is an easy fix. It requires removal of the belt from the engine running it, and a few bolts that attach it to the engine.

Because of the engineering with the 2000 mpv, it is a very difficult fix, and one that requires removal of the transaxle and exhaust manifold, as well as removal of the lower engine mounts. It will take a qualified Mazda mechanic 3.5 hours to do the fix - you can (at least) triple that amount of time as a DIY project (assuming you have the right tools).

SOURCE: My 2000 Mazda MPV heater fan works for 4 not for 1

You need to replace the blower motor resistor,it's in the heater box.Number 4 bypasses the resistor and all the other speeds go through it so it's the most likely problem.

Our 2001 Mazda MPV doors are not locking. Before, we were able to lock all doors just by locking manually locking from the inside on the driver side and using the remote keyless entry. Now, when we try...

The clicking you hear is the vehicle asking for the program sequence to reprogram the locking system. Apparently something threw it out of sequence, ( a battery change , jumpstart, voltage spike , etc). The programming sequence that mazda uses is really kinda crazy. I was able to locate the sequence to try. If it does not work have the dealership flash the pcm, (another word for reprogram the powertrain control module). Here is the sequence:
1) Get in MPV with ignition key, and all fobs for the vehicle.
2) Close all doors and remove ignition key if it is in ignition.
3) Open driver's door
Note: Steps 4 and 5 must be completed in under thirty seconds.
4) Repeat the following three times
a) Insert ignition key
b)Turn ignition switch to on and then to lock
c) Remove ignition key
5) Repeat the following three times
a) Close driver's door
b) Open driver's door
Locks should all lock and then unlock within a couple of seconds--you'll hear the clicking sound
6) Press any button two times within five seconds on fob being programmed.
Locks should again lock and unlock
7) Repeat step 6 for all other fobs being programmed. When done with last fob, wait a few seconds and then you should be done with the reprogramming. Each fob should now work for this vehicle.

I was browsing unsolved problems. If you still have the problem, I'll try to help you. But it's going to be awhile trying to communicate back and forth. First...Check the engine for spark. Take off a plug wire and stick a screw driver in the wire end and place the metal part of the screw driver next to something on the van that's metal. Have someone crank it over for just a second or two and see if a small spark jumps from the screw driver to the metal part. I'll check back for your answer.

How to change battery on keyless entry

There should be a small screw on the remote if not just pry it open. it will snap back together.

You should be able to split the remote in half. You can usually use a small flat blade screw driver to do this. You should a line all the way around the outside of the remote. Gently pry it open and replace the battery.

When you can see the CODE BAT, select your new battery HERE.

I hope helped (remember rated this help). Good luck.

yes this would most lkely be the battery, most remotes just snap apart or have a tiny screw in them, it varies, but snap apart is most common.
