The difference here is important...., are you sure the air conditioning is running or is the heater just blowing cold air ? I would guess just cold air which may be caused by several things. First , check the radiator level (when engine is cold) to make sure its full. If it is, then disconnect heater lines and give it a good flushing in both directions because in all probability you have either a plugged heater core or lines. The taurus of that era had a weird heater bypass system designed by some escapee from a mental institution. People have solved insufficient heat problems by removing the by-pass and capping off the ends, which increased water flow to heater. Also, you could check the blend door which should be visible if you remove the ashtray assembly. You should be able to see the shaft turning as you adjust the knob from hot to cold. Try these things first as the probability of a cure to your problem is high.

A/c and heat runs at same time

Two heater hoses run from the engine to the demister radiator, one hose has a tap to shut off the hot water when the air conditioner is on . this tap is not closing or has frozen in the on position , repair this and you will be fine.

Operating tempture normal but car dosen't seem to make adequate heat. also a/c compressor runs on positions except air on floor.

See if you got a heater control valve..Its located in the heater hoses..If it dont have that,,then check see if the hoses are hot going to the heater core..If ones hot but the other isnt,,or warm only then you may have a clogged heater core

No heat or air barely enough to keep front windshield defrosted

If engine temp is not at normal, change thermostat. If it is, check for trapped air in system.
with cold engine, loosen radiator cap & stART ENGINE, RUN TILL UPPER HOSE GETS HOT (meaning thermostat has opened), then see if air burps out of cap. Shut off engine and keep rad full as engine cools down.thighten cap & keep reservoir full.

Did upper hose get hot?

2001 FORD WINDSTAR stopped heating

Check top rad hose for heat. When enging has been running for 10-15 minutes, shut off engine and feel top rad hose. It should be very warm if not hot to the touch. If it is not hot, Change thermostat. It is located under housing that top rad hose mounts to on engine. You can get a eplacement at any auto parts store. Get a failsafe one. If it fails it does so in the off position only and will not cause overheating problems if it fails.
If rad hose is hot it is a problem with your heater, possibly plugged

No heat

Does the fan blow air, but it's not hot?

For a heater to operate properly, hot coolant must enter the heater core inside the car. A valve opens and closes to allow this coolant to flow and to stop it when heat is not needed. This valve is usually located close to the firewall at the back of the engine. If you had work done on the hoses, it is possible that the connections to this valve were not done properly.

If you can locate this valve, watch its operation when someone in the car turns the heat on. There is likely a cable which runs from the heating system to the valve. This cable will change the position of a lever on the outside of the valve which will either open the valve for the hot coolant to come inside or shut the coolant off. There should be at least two coolant hoses connected to this valve. This cable can get detached from the lever, and this will prevent the flow of hot coolant from coming into the heater core.

Weak heat from my 91 honda accord

SInce your car is approaching 20 yrs of age, it's not surprising that the heater core could be clogged. I assume you have checked for a half-shut inline heater valve (if there is one.) HEre's how to test for the clogged core:

locate two rubber hoses going into firewall and clamped to two pipes protruding therefrom. These are your hoses to the heater core and the spouts running in and out of it. Disconnect the two hoses at some place convenient if not at firewall. Then run water hose into one of these tubes. If you have any backflow, or restriction, then you need a heater core.

If this is not a clogged core, BE SURE your hot/cold cable is pulling it's door or valve to the full hot position. Trace it under dash.

Can't get any heat at all.

Begin by warming up engine.  The from under the hood hold both heater hoses to confirm that heater core is getting hot water.  If hoses are not hot then the fault is likely to be the thermostat stuck in the open position.  If hoses are hot, then you must access the heater box, behind the glove box. there is a blend door which must move from cold to hot.  Check this and keep me posted.
