VW Cabriolet RPM decreases

I have a Manual 1.8 VW cabriolet 1988. My car starts and drive great but after a while, usually after driving for few miles at high or low speed... the rpm get low and it seems the engine will turn off. sometimes I just switch the engine to off and started again and the problem disappear or sometimes after ignoring it by driving, it stop doing it but after a while it happens again. Might be a dirty injector? fuel pump? low oxygen?? please help. Normally is 2000 RPM, when having problems it get to 1000 RPM

Hello,
to me its sounds as though you have dirt ,gunk & grime ,water, in the main inline factory fuel filter, ,it will be a steel canister type, between the feul tank and the intake manifold, change filter,( u may need a mechanic, or someone handy with a spanner, once off, tip contents into and look for laquer peel, some tanks are seal with this, and it will some times peel ( especially if tank not kept full). if that is the case, have your tank taken out & cleaned, also, check airfilter, car will run better n cheaper to run, Hope this Helps. VW Cabriolet RPM decreases

Hi, it sounds like you have dirt, water ,gunk & grime in your inline factory fuel filter ,.Its located between the tank & the inlet manifold,.
once you located, have it changed it, or have it changed, (its a steel canister with flow arrow) ,check for lacquer peel, which is a sealant they sometimes use in fuel tanks, check contents of old canister by pouring remainder into a container and check for this, it will be flacky particals, if severe, have tank tanken out of car & cleaned, this is due to not having the tank full most the time, Also, check your air cleaner , it will help with the cars performance. hope this helps, Kipper 25257603-fhf2ppg4i12i45qd5vaymkeg-2-0.jpgmake sure arrow on filter face front of car....

1989 VW cabriolet oil pressure warning light on at low rpm and idle. Oil pressure gauge shows sub 1 bar at same time. Is this a sending unit problem, or an oil pump problem? Where are sending units? ...

The Oil light is a dreaded sight, especially at idle. Usually if an oil pump fails, it dies, the same with an oil pressure sender. I had the same problem with a 97 neon, at idle the oil light comes on... (192,000 miles). If the oil used at the oil change was a thinner viscosity than what was in there, that could cause it. If not, it could be bearings going bad on the motor creating a low pressure situation. I fixed it by going to a thicker viscosity, from 5w-30 to 10w-30, and in a week the light went off... this was 7 months ago. Just food for thought, hope this helps.

88 vw Cabriolet want crank for 15 minutes.

It could be your starter. I had that problem with my vw cabriolet and finaly found out that the heat from the engine causes the starter solenoid to stop working and not engaging the starter.

I have a 1992 VW Cabriolet about 3 000 rpm it

The vibration at that high rpm is most likely coming from the torque convertor and if a manual transmission , then clutch issues.
