Sometimes my 03 eclipse will crank but not start,,,let it sit 10min and it starts like a champ...always runs sooth and doesn't die once started....
I believe that everytme it has happened it has been running fine within an hour before not starting....It seems to be a fuel problem because if I pump the gas pedal it"tries" to start
If pumping the accelerator seems to work ( it actually does nothing) then there is an indication of a sensor failure either in the accelerator position sensor or accelerator motor. run the fault codes and replace any faulty sensors.

okay it sounds like you may have a fuel problem first off if you buy the very cheap gas that could be your problem you need to find a name brand station preferably mobile if you can get to it you don't have to use the premium you can use a regular use that and see what happens most of the time the problem clears up bad gas will always will always give you a hard start cold once it fires up and run it runs by Major suggestion change gas use a better high quality gasoline and you should be okay
Fuel filter wouldn't cause that ,
Won't start until it sits for a while.
Clogged fuel filter , the vehicle wouldn't start at all . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

The next time it fails to start, you'll need to start crossing off the possible causes. Is it lack of fuel or lack of spark ? Is the asd relay working, and so on. Once you narrow down the causes you can troubleshoot it better.
install pressure gauge and watch when key is turned off to see if pressure drops to zero if so bad drain back valve in fuel pump replace it or deal with it or could be cheap aftermarket pump and has hard time building unnecessary pressure to open poppet valves between before fuel injectors
could be, unless your battery is dying. a nearly dead battery will make clicking noises while it is cranking. if you keep forcing it by turning the key from "run" to "crank" and it gets it to start it may be a dead spot on the starter.
My 97 had intermittent starting problems. It never died while running but give this a try... The next time it won't start, remove the bottom of the back seat and turn the ignition on without cranking the engine. You should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds and then turn off. If you don't hear it run, it could be a problem with the fuel pump relay. There are two relays that are part of the system and they are located in the engine compartment on the firewall next to the master cylinder. I replaced the cheaper of the two and that fixed it.
