Drove my Honda Passport AWD 2002 about 7 miles this morning and I noticed smoke that seemed to be coming from the front wheel on driver side. What could it be?

I drove the car home and I noticed it didn't smoke any more. I checked under the hood and didn't see anything leaking. It did have slight burn smell at the front wheel

Wouldn't you suspect a failed wheel hub
bearing assy or brake issue ?

Start taking it apart & sniffing as you go

Have to stop using it as is

SOURCE: 89 honda accord on and off oil leaks

Does it happen when the engine is hot and stops when you let the engine cool down? You may need to get under the vehicle to see where it is leaking from. If you dont have the means to do it safely then bring it to a shop, they will put it on a car lift. It could be a sending unit but it could be a head-gasket, valve-cover, or something else.

SOURCE: Heard a grinding sound under hood. Car then died.

So does the a/c still work, maybe your compressor is bad? Top off your oil and run the engine and see if you can find out where the oil came from?

SOURCE: burning plastic smell from under hood

You will need to check where the liquid is coming from, It may be anything from Air Con, Fuel, Transmission Fluid etc..

The fact you smell burning plastic could be 3 things..

1, Brake pads could smell and burn down if they are on too tight (Had this problem with a trailer). Hence when you apply the brakes it could be squirting brake fluid out due to too much pressure.
- Check brake fluid

2, If the smell and liquid is inside the car (front pass side) it could be the air ducts. Under the dashboard you have air ducts etc for the fans and in car cooling (brother had issue with this)

3, Whatever the fluid is, it could possibly drip onto something hot, unusual for liquid to smell like plastic though, Auto transmission oil smells like fish.

Best bet would be the brakes. Next time you smell it just smell in the wheel mag and see if you can smell it, check the engine fluids often and dont use A/C (Air Con) as that does drip fluid (normal). If it is the brakes smelling you will need to have the lines bled out, tyre places may be able to do this, and possibly new brake pads

Good luck

My 2004 awd mercury mountaineer when driven it has a bad smell coming from front end and the driver side on the front smokes by the wheel. My abs light is on always and it has new brakes. What is it

Does the vehicle pull to the side that smokes? A smoking brake is usually an indication of a sticky/seized caliper or sticky/seized caliper slide bracket. Have the brakes inspected before premature wear/damage results

Brake pedal just started needing to be pumped to engage and smoke coming from behind the back drivers side tire

I have the same truck! You could have a leaking wheel cylinder. Look at the brake drum on the driver rear and see if its wet. also check your brake fluid level. If you are leaking you will be low.
Wheel cyl's are not super hard to do, just make sure you do everything and both sides. also do one side at a time so you can use the other side for reference when putting it all back together.

Have a 2002 crv awd .Which wheels drive the car. LIVE IN ARIZONA. Drove car first time.in sow. Wife car formerly now retired I drive. Car was all over the road. auto trans. 63000 mi.

The AWD means All Wheel Drive. Sort of the same as a 4 wheel drive. All the wheels have power at the same time. In a slippery road condition, all tires/wheels can loose traction at the same time causing loose of control - which would be normal. AWD does not mean traction all the time in snow and ice. It still has to be driven with caution and respect to road conditions. Hope this helps.

2002 Honda CRV All Wheel Drive Problems Accellerating

Sounds crazy, but you may have way too much air pressure in the front tires. IIRC, the tire manufacturer calls for about 36 lbs of pressure, but the little sticker on the B pillar of the drivers side says something like 26 lbs.

If you're over-inflated, the wheels may be slipping upon hard acceleration, causing the movement "to the side" that you are experiencing. Then, the back wheel(s) attempt to grip, and that corrects the "slide".

It's a real funky AWD system, and most of the time the back wheels do absolutely nothing...

Volvo S60 AWD 2.5- car pulls sideways when driving on rain or sno

It's probably not that the wheels are moving at a different speed. It sounds like a simple alignment issue to me. Installing a bearing could have thrown it off. You should just have a simple alignment job done.
