SOURCE: 2004 Chev Aveo not shifting into 4th gear

My car did the same thing, you need to get a linkage for the gears, it only cost like 30 bucks when i took mine into the shop including labor, im not a mechanic and don't have one, so thats what i did, the part is only 12 dollars

2004 aveo auto trans. will not shift into 4th gear after an eng. change

Sometime s its kind of hard to tell for sure with and automatic if it has shifted into high gear .You say new engine installed check the linkages and all shift related parts if it shifted before and nothing was changed it should shift now
Also take a look at the interlock switch on the side of the transmission it is derectly linked to to the shift lever on the coloum

2004 Chev Aveo not shifting into 4th gear

Out of the blue my aveo flashes Hold and won't go into fourth. Disconnected the battery to clear the code and it shifts fine until the car goes through a cycle. I'm sure it's a some low qual Korean sensor/solenoid. Overall, this is has been a great econobox reminiscent of my 1989 Honda Civic. I've replaced most of the sensors with NON -Korean replacements and really haven't had many issues. So when I find the offending solenoid/sensor I will post it here.

My chevrolet aveo won't intermittently move from 2nd to 3rd or 4th gear, and have to reduce speed and move back down to 2nd and try again ....notice it more if trying to move up the gears quickly

This transmission is electronically shifted via solenoids controlled by a computer, so you need to have that tested for fault codes that may be in memory.

The HOLD LIGHT CAME ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHAT COULD THAT MEAN? It is a 2005 chev. aveo with 28,000 miles

There is a hold button on the shifter or the console. When activated the transmission is locked into the selected gear and the hold light will come on.

An example is putting the transmission in 4th gear, pushing the hold button, and taking off in the snow. Wheel slip would be limited.

You will need the check engine light code read with a scanner and diagnosed.

My aveo 04 manual wont start gets a spark ,fuel and replaced timming belt it was chewd up after car stalled on me in the high way but still wont start. gears also shift into place whats wrong?

If the timing belt became chewed up it would seem the belt/timing has slipped (do not try starting it like this bad things could happen) You'll need to replace the timing belt, tensioner and insure the proper mechanical timing is done for it to run properly if at all. If the belt failed at highway speed and it has a interference fit engine this would mean a valve or two may be bent too. I'd check the timing and once this is corrected I'd checking cylinder compression.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

2005 aveo starts off in 4th gear.

Sometimes particular clutch packs can fail and the computer won't set a code. The only time a code can be set is if a sensor actually "sees" a problem. Possibly in this case, the clutch pack can fail but the proper line pressures are still right because the front pump is supplying proper pressure and the servos are applying the clutches. Probably the cheapest way to determine your problem would be to drop the transmission pan and carefully catch the fluid in a container. Then, check the fluid and the inside of the transmission pan for clutch debris. This sounds like an amateur way to do it but if it were in my shop, that would be my first step in diagnosing the problem. Good luck!
