I ran out of gas in my 08 yaris and still had 3 bars. I put in 4 gallons and I'm still at 3 bars. What happened that the bars aren't moving up with the extra gas?

This problem usually occurs due three reasons:
1. If the odometer is reversed. (In this case the speed is not read. if meter reads speed ignore this reason).
2. The pointer in the sender fuel gauge is carbon fouled. (Remove the fuel gauge from the fuel tank and just clean the pointer. The fuel gauge is located under the rear passenger seat).
3. The fuel gauge in the fuel tank is defective.(Replace with a good known one even purchased from the junk).
Hope that works.Thank you for visiting Fixya.

SOURCE: car ran out of gas,

since you have run the fuel system dry you now have a fuel system that is full of air. To prime the system turn the key to the on position... not the start position(you should hear a humm comming from rear of car, that humm is the fuel pump.Do this several times to get your fuel system pressurized and then try to start. If you dont hear the humm your fuel pump is not running. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Ran out of gas......

Sounds like fuel pump burned out when you ran out of gas. probably ran dry for about 20 sec till engine quit. Check for power to fuel pump in tank. Most likely fuel pump will need replacement . Hope this helps

SOURCE: gas gauge reads empty but tank acts like it's full

I also have a 04 with a 1.8L. same problem. I took the fuel regulator off. It is a black box behind the rear tire under car. It only has 2 bolts to take off. After that there is a couple of vent hoses from the tank going to this box. Unplug them and 1 electrical connection. The electrical connection and one vent is connected to a T connection on the box that you can unplug by twisting on the T. Take that T off and look inside where you unplugged the hose on this T. There is a spring and a little plunger inside this tube. The plunger gets stuck. I took a little screw driver and some PB blaster and worked that plunger back and forth a couple dozen times and it unfroze. Put it back together gassed up just fine. I did not look but I was told regulator can be replaced for 200$. But a can of blaster is cheaper.

SOURCE: 96 Jeep cherokee ran out of gas, re-fuel, won't start. No spark.

You may have to prime the fuel pump. Or replace the fuel pump if that does not work. Why do you let it run out of gas? This is definately not good for an injected motor. It will continue to cause more and more problems. Fuel injectors should never run dry.

After i ran out of gas?

Reset the computer & check the fuel PSI. You may want to replace the gas filter. when u run dry, the filter picks up all the dirt at the bottom of the tank. Make sure your gas PSI is good before u get into electronics. start w the basics. That would set that code too trying to start dry.Good luck

If you have been running out of gas a lot, I would suspect trash in the fuel filter. Whether the filter be in the tank or inline under the hood, it should be checked to see if its clogged. I doubt if its a problem with the gas, it should have still fired up.

My chevy uplander 2007 ran out of gas. I have

Since the Uplanders have the long (front to back) skinny gas tank, with the outlet to the rear; if you run out of gas with the front/nose inclined lower than the rear, then it can take upwards of 5 to 8 gallons to get it started again. It was written up in a GM TSB. Two gallons won't start it. When the gage reads less than 1/2, it's not a good idea to park with the front lower than the rear...unless you carry a full 5 gal. refill. Thank you GM engineering.
