Is it the lighter itself or is it the receptacle the lighter goes in? Some times the lighter has to be replaced as the coil burns out .and it could be a blown out fuse as well.

I am not sure what exactly is your problem but you the lighter fuse should be 15 or 20 amps. If it's not mark on the fuse holder, then check to make sure there is power to the center contact of the socket with a 12 volts test light. If there is power, then remove one fuse at a time and if the test light foes out, that is the ligher fuse. It will take a little time, but I love to do projects. Please ask any other questions.

sounds like the lighter itself is bad because the fuse for the lighter is the same as the fuse for the connecter in which the inspection machine plugs in to.

Please the fuse is cut off and it is located in the car beneath the driver side underneath the steering compartment.

Good luck.

Your thought that the end of something fell into the lighter fried something is likely true. I can't imagine that the wire could be fried and the fuse is still good. check to see if the fuse you checked was the right one. If it was and it is good, a wire on the back of the receptacle may have come lose. The end that fell into the receptacle, did it get hot or damaged? That could be a clue as to if the receptacle was shorted when the end fell into it or if not, then look for a lose connection.

I'm trying to find the cigarette lighter fuse for a 2000 Grand Marquis

The socket is called a power point, it is not a cigar lighter. You can find the location of the fuse in the owner's in the "Roadside Emergencies" section. Here is link to the manual, it is a Crown Victoria which is the same car, the Grand Marquis manuals are no longer published from Ford. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Catalog/owner_information/2000-CrownVicotria-version-2_om_EN-US_12_1999.pdf

Radio won't come on.Already changed the fuse now the cigarette lighter works but still no radio. This model does have the Amp in the trunk.Should I look for a fuse there ??

I have a feeling that you check and changed the wrong fuse. The cigarette lighter is on a totally different circuit and that's why I think that, Not sure if you have a blown fuse for the radio but I can tell you that the fuse for the lighter is in the number 16 position and the radio is in the number 11 position (diagram of layout below). I hope this helps you and good luck.

it may not be a bad fuse you can test the socket with a test light the little clips that hold the bottom of the lighter is where the power is . hear is the fuse location.
