I have a 1998 Volvo V70 XC AWD wagon, with 146000 miles. Recently a significant shuddering vibration comes up from under the center console, only at very low turning speeds. It stops once the car starts going straight. Also it doesn't happen in reverse. My Volvo mechanic describes it as a torque transmission problem from front to rear, in the drive shaft, and to just live with it! It's a very disturbing noise when it happens! Comments, please. Have you also checked the fitting of the gear shift bar , if that is worn or not fitting correctly due to banging somthing off the road it may not be sitting flush. The Gear shift is one of the parts which goes under that area.
Unless the Volvo Tech is aware of this issue from their experience.

Check the transfer case fluid recommend replacing with FACTORY fluid the clutches are very sensitive in operation they lock up with the wrong fluid.

the first thing you want to check is whether or not it has a heavy drag at the wheel caused by wrong pads, sticking caliper, improperly installed parts. Lift the car and try to turn the wheel. Just because they are certified does not mean they know everything. I'm certified too, but I also have experience with euros and the quality of parts that need to be used. If inferior quality parts are used it will cause this. It can create all kinds of problems and noises. Take it back until they get it right. Ask them what brand of parts they use. Let me know and if they give you any grief, contact me and I will advise accordingly.

XC AWD. Why is check engine light still on?
Why did you replace the 02 sensors? These monitor the amount of air/fuel in the exhaust. If the engine is running too rich/lean the code will return regardless of replacing these sensors. What code did you get?

The 1st things you need to do is have the engine control module scanned for fault codes and the fuel pressure tested for proper specs.

If a 1998 volvo v70 xc awd doesnt have rear drive shaft, would that cause an ABS code ?
It means that there have some problem on your ABS system.

When turning right or left I hear a loud clunk, which I can feel, as tho the car is overcoming some tension and then releasing. I just replaced both front axles and the clunk remains. Lots of ps fluid...
either the top bearings on the struts or the lower track control arms ,remember that when the front struts are changed the original beariings are put back on

My blower on my 1998 volvo v70 xc is not blowing
The most common problem is either the blower motor or the speed control resistor. Both items can be accessed by removing the glove box and panel below it.

Have a Volvo V70 XC AWD 2000. P0422 code comes up "efficeincy below threshold". Just replaced the Cat with an after market unit. Code comes back after resetting and driving for 30 miles. Car has 135K miles...
you can do that since you already replace the cat, however the problem may be some where else like maf sensor, intake leaks faulty plugs, coils or fuel injectors

Volvo V70 xc AWD '98 - fuel filter change

The fuel filter can be located under the carpeted cargo storage floor at the rear of the wagon. Remove the four 10mm bolts, remove the cover. You will then see a removeable plate to the right just behind the rear passenger seat. Fuel filter can be seen through hole in hole. Replaced from underneath wagon. Be sure to make sure lines are fully inserted onto filter. Check for leaks. No smoking, extinguisher handy. Note arrow on filter for correct fuel flow.
