The switches that control the lights for open doors are made right into the door latches and they have a history of sticking and causing problems like that.

Here is a technique that often works well and eliminates the problem at no cost.

Get a can of spray lube like WD40 or something like it and has a straw on the nozzle. Spray it generously up into the latch mechanism. Now open and close the door numerous times to work it in. Repeat this process several times. Since you don't really know which door is causing the problem, you should do all of them. It's usually caused by the most frequently used door but it's not guaranteed to be that one.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford Windstar fuse problem - dome light stays on etc

you most likely have a bad door ajar switch- the door panel has to be removed to access it, its on the door latch- you can unplug them this will take care of the batt drain prob.as for the locks it may be a switch problem- most ford vehicles will not let you lock the vehicle from the driver's door when it's open to prevent locking the keys in.

SOURCE: Dome light and doors open light stay on when driving.

I learned from another site that WD-40 in the door handle, lock cylinder will often clean the sensor that is likely acting up. I tried it on both my 99s and it worked like a charm!!

SOURCE: 1998 Taurus SE warning chime beeps as you get in the driver door

Hi John,

Had a similar problem with my Saturn. Door chime going all the time, the seat belts going up - down - up for no apparent reason.

Turned out to be the switch in the door jamb had become unseated. As it randomly made and broke contact, the cars computer thought the doors were opening and closing, then acted accordingly.

I remounted it with the help of a hot glue gun (plastic mount).

Hope this info helps with your problem.

Best regards
Mike

SOURCE: electrical issues

one of the switrches are stuck. they are attached to the door latch. start at the drivers door and spray penetraing oil on the latch mechanism, LOTS, now repeatedly close /open the door like 20 times, and see if that gets it bajk working, you may have to do all of the door latches. if not, a mechaninc may need a wiring diagram to determine which switch is bad.

Power windows stopped working and dome lights stay on. Power locks work only with the "clicker" but not on driver door

Look under the hood fuse no. 12 should be for power windows. Or maybe something like a bad ground wire in drivers door harness.

I have a 1995 F350 crew cab with keyless entry and the dome lights controlled by...

There are two jam switches located on the latch assymbly. One on top and one at the bottom. They can become dirty and not function properly causing the dome light to stay on until it "times" out. They can be removed and cleaned so they don't stick. Once I found them, it took me about an hour to completely remove the door panel, latch assymbly, and to reinstall everything back.

Beings as everything that stopped working is on the passenger side, I'd think some wiring got disconnected or broken.

Door wont open from outside

remove the door trim and replace the door lock rod in side at the lock . It is held in place by a plastic clip which breaks on a regular basis and allows the rod to fall out.

Door open indicator light stays on , automatic door locks go on & off while driving and dome light and outside mirror lights wont go off after the car is turned off

i would hazard a guess and say that wires in the rubber boot from the door pilar to the door are damaged or the connection block in the door pillar in this the terminals are corroded or something similar

Dome light and doors open light stay on when driving.

check you door switch buttons to see if they will each turn off the lights. Open one door at a time, push the door push button by hand and see if the lights go out. If they do, that is your probelm switch or the door is not closing tight enough to psuh the pluger button all the way in.
