1992 Subaru legacy tail and brake light not working

My passenger tail and brake lights, are not working.. changed bulbs, checked fuses, and the wires I could see. Still not working. Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated. Trying to avoid taking her into the shop if possible. Where would I take her in to if I had to?

I would imagine the mechanic checked the fuses, so i would say it has a bad headlight switch or the power feed to it.

SOURCE: Tail lights / Brake lights

i was having a similar problem with my 2000 SL. when the taillights would go, so would the cruise control. and through many bulb and fuse replacements, i finally went into a saturn dealership and they did a recall campaign on it. they did their thing and i havnt had any problems since. FREE!

Brake light on Subaru Wagon stopped working

If the brake lights don't work, check the fuse for the circuit; take a look a the brake light switch and, if necessary, the multifunction switch. You can test the brake light switch with a test light. You might check the wiring that it is completely connected or not.

I have a 1992 Subaru Legacy. The tail lights will not come on anymore. The lights work fine when I apply the brakes, but not when just running

Did you change the radio recently..if so you tapped into the wrong wire...and if not then I would say you have a bad headlight switch or a broke ground dome where

1997 Subaru Impreza Tail lights work but brake lights don't even though the Hatch brake light is working

Hi,
So, both sides are not working? Check for voltage @ the brake light bulb to see if you're getting power. Also, look in the fuses.

check out the online Subaru forums, too.

My taillight (rear - passenger side) is not working - the other one on the driver side is. I change both bulbs in the non-working on (bulb #1157) and the tail light is still not working. What do I do...

Check the bulb socket. They get really hot and heat can cause the wires to melt solder holding them in place. If you have a test light, probe the socket pins for power,(light switch on). If none on either pin, then probe the wires an inch or so back from the socket. If wire(s) have power replace socket. If not, and even if you find power on the pins but the lamp doesn't work, then also check for a bad or loose ground wire.

1993 subaru legacy brake lights do not work. Bulbs and fuse are fine. How can I test the brake light switch? PS: this legacy has cruise control, so the BL switch manages that, too.

simple test light to the stop light switch mounted just above the brake pedal. power in one side push down on the pedal and power should come out the other wire.

99 mercury mystide had rear running light broken

If the driver's side tail light is working, it's not a fuse. Use a test light to check for power at the bulb holder. One terminal will be for tail light, the other for brake/turn light. If the is constant power for tail light, replace bulb. If no power, trace wiring from bulb holder to driver's side junction. Probable broken wire between the two tail lights.

Brake lights do not work (3rd brakelight does) changed bulbs checked fuse

Problem could be the Brake Light Control Module. That's about the only other thing other than a bad wire somewhere if the bulbs and fuses are good. 91 Accord has 2. One on each side in the smaller of the 2 rear tail light lenses. In order to change the module you have to remove the smaller of the rear tail lights. Drivers side is 5 pin. Passenger side is 6 pin.
