I had a similar problem with mine as well... i skip the drama.. as i am working on another problem with the same vehicle.. :( Take off the plastic shrouds behind the steering wheel ( screwes from bottom up. and push the little brass button on the right side approx. 1.5 inches behind the ignition switch.. may just be stuck... push it and may even try some lube to help... i have left off the bottom half of the shroud just in case.. let me know if it helps!!
If you have the push buttons on the dash board you must follow the instructions in your owners manual to return the transfer case to 2wd from neutral. I don't remember for sure but I think you must have the transmission in neutral, foot on brake, press and hold both 2wd and 4wdlow buttons at same time. My father who lives 45 miles from me has the Jimmy, I don't. Hope this helps, Jim
The solenoid that releases the glass latch is probably stuck (corroded, warn out, needs lubricating, etc.). You will need to remove the rear gate inside panel to see what's wrong and manually release the latch, and then likely replace the latching mechanism.
If its a push button 4x4 take it to the shop its a VERY COMMON Problem dealing with the electric.Once you pay the $400 to get it fixed get rid of the truck and settle for a Jimmy/Blazer/Bravada with a floor shift 4x4..GM had problems with the push button 4x4.DONT DRIVE YOUR TRUCK IN THE MEANTIME.YOU WILL BLOW YOUR TRANSFER CASE RIGHT OUT OF IT!
