Question about 2000 Land Rover Discovery

1 Answer

Changed my bcm in my 2000 land rover discovery. Now it doesn't want to start and the mileage light is blinking. What do I need to do?

Started with my alarm tripping. Then my doors wouldn't unlock and lock. The unlock button doesn't work and the back windows stopped working also. Bought it to a Land Rover dealership and they said the bcm was going or gone bad but unfortunately I didn't have $1,000 to replace it.

Dont have a definitive answer for you as the generality of it is along the lines of presenting a cup of ocean water and asking from which tributary around the world it came. I will attempt to answer it based upon pure speculation. Hope it helps...
What you are referring to is actually the BeCM or Body electrical Control Module. This module controls power to, grounding of, signals of operation to/from, and diagnostic info for every component in the vehicle which relies on power to function. Everything. It is the brain of all that is power in your rover. Nothing less than amazing actually, this unit is performing hundreds of operations at any given moment you are driving and even when your car is garaged and keys in your pocket. Each Land Rover is fitted to your vehicle, synchronized, and coded at the factory for your specific vehicle. While many systems are generic in nature there are systems such as perimeter alarm sensors and engine immobiliser which have unique security codes paired to the BeCM. Replacement of the unit can be done but it is not "plug & play" so if you or your shop performed the installation it was not completed in that the unit must be paired with the numerous sub-control modules by way of recoding. This function can only be done with the Land Rover proprietary diagnostic system called TestBook. A very few independants have this technology as its expense, around $30K keeps it out of reach and maintains the umbilical cord to your local dealers service dept.
It sounds to me like your BeCM went to work after install and sent proper signals out to various components however as the diagnostic data flowed back in it was received as encrypted garble. As the unit scrambled to interpret and process data it simply became scatter brained.
I beleive that the sync requires your Discivery be on site to perform, however you may check with a reputable Rover dedicated online supplier such as Roverland parts and ask them.
As to your Rover dealer, there must have been some level of communication breakdown because i cant imagine them not knowing the process or attempting to sell you a BeCM you didnt need.
Best of luck, sorry its not a quick fix answer. Feel free to repost any additional info or message my box directly and i will do my best to catch it and assist further.

SOURCE: land rover discovery central locking.

No, likely to be caused by the actuators in the lock mechanism failing usually causing the door to remain locked. The boor door can also fail this way, as do the front side doors. Replacement requires the whole lock unit to be replaced at a cost of roughly £60 a lock, and a hours work. Helps if you have small hands. Requires a full strip down of the door and you will need the lock unit, trim clips (a few quid) and a trim removal tool (tenner). You can bodge with a flat head screwdriver, but the tool does help prevent damage to the clips & trim panel.

You'll have to call the dealer have them pull the VIN to see if you have the latest and greatest software. Also you can check on the land rover website under owners put in the last 8 digits of your vin number and it will tell you if the BB8900 is fully compatible.

SOURCE: on my land rover discovery

lock the jeep. hold in unlock position for 5 seconds, you will hear a beep, enter your unique code in a card in the front of the owners manual, will be something like this.
unlock 4 times
lock 8 times
unlock 13 times
lock 3 times
unlock and hopefully you hear 2 bleeps, now wait ten minutes for the alarm to turn off, the red light on the dash will blink really fast and the hazards may go off once, now you have 30 seconds to get your key in the ignition and start the car. but you need the code, apparently land rover will get it for you but you need indentity and proof of ownership etc.

98 ford explorer Driver side power lock button doesn't work

The button may be defective. Unlike the other doors, if you have the electronic group there is a separate driver's door unlock relay which reverses the door lock motor, probably to disable the theft alarm and allow your fob to open just that door for entry. This relay could be defective. The master switch operates through door lock and door unlock relays and those relays could be defective also.

Help alarm on my Chrysler Concorde 1995

This should work if it is a factory alarm, first roll the window down on the drivers side door then manually lock and shut the door, then unlock the door with the key and see if that shuts it off!

I started my car on day and the next day I unlocked the door and the alarm started and would not stop. My buddy diconnected the horn and the car won't

i believe if you put key in ignition turn it forward and back off twice it should reset the anti theft to start it. or unlock pass door with key and that might reset it. also try the same with back pass door if the other didnt work. hope this helps.

1993 Nissan Maxima SE Car Alarm freaks out, and other electrical

Im no professional but i did recently buy a 93 maxima and i have the same security alarm problem and my powered locks dont work at all. im taking off the door panel today to take a look and see if the alarm sensor is loose or damaged, if it is, ill probably just disconnect it. one thing i have noticed though is that when i hit the lock or unlock button, i hear a faint click from the dashboard area which im assuming is the solenoid on a transistor which would mean that the buttons work but the transistor isnt delivering power. Semi-Solution for Locks: Listen for very quiet click when you lock/unlock doors, if you hear it, uve got major work to do, if you dont, then take apart the door and check the switch connections. Semi-Solution for Alarm: take off the door panel and disconnect the sensor.
