How should I check out the electrionics of my 92 chev 350 v8?

engine idle and then check strobe light to mark on crank ,then slowly rev engine to check advance ,it should move

that is strange. how is the battery? one way this could occur is if the battery is too weak during startup to get the computer the right info to fire the injectors so the starting fluid gets it going and then the alternator kicks in and the voltage is present to maintain operation. just one of many possibilities. check this with a volt meter. battery should be 12.5 or better. if you can check while cranking motor without starter fluid and see where voltage drops to.
if it is below 12 volts this could happen. let me know please and thanks for using fixya

first remove number 1 spark plug, this is the front first plug on the driver side.put your finger over the hole and have someone bump it over until you get compression blowing your finger off the hole tell them to stop. then look on your harmonic balancer and line up the notch on balancer to the wide gap on the pointer. when this is lined up your then on number one compression stroke.
