Specifically what programmer/tuner do I need to adjust the shift points ??

On a smooth slow go from a stop, it winds up as one would expect thru 1st and 2nd gears. Then when it shifts to 3rd, it darn near immediately shifts to 4th. This results in lugging. Very frustarting when it happens. I bouhg the v6 for good mileage but not for limping around. However when it starts lugging, I can depress the throttle a bit and it downshifts and the revs come up and it accelerates on out as one would expect. The lugging always happens under normal/easy acceleration. If I get on it, it winds thru 3rd and on into 4th as one would expect. I want to try and adjust the parameters to make it stay in 3rd a bit longer so the normal driving does not involve "lugging". I understand their thinking about keeping the rpms down as much as possible. But 1500 rpm in a 3.7 v6 with a large body truck just does not get it. Any guidancw would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the tv cable is out of adjustment. Take it to a transmission shop and have it adjusted properly. If you don't you can burn up the transmission. The cable controls fluid pressure and shift points.

SOURCE: hard shift from 1st to 2nd, then 2nd to 3rd.

Dont think they changed it yet but the older chrysler units had a rod that went from the throttle linkage to the transmission (maybe a cable now)...If you lengthen the rod it will increase shift pressure and give you an earlier shift.

Try a tranny service change a place that changes the filter the pan gasket and fluid not some of these quick places that just drain a couple quarts out of the tranny lines and thats it that wont help but a complete tranny service should help.

have you dropped the pan to see whats the bands are set at, any debris in pan bottom, whats your governor pressure, if bands are ok, but gov pressures are not relative to speed 1 psi per mph up to 95-127psi, port is on pass side of case rear top right, scan tool would be very helpful, your must have mil light on for this problem, gov dtc's, replace gov transducer as gov solniod as a pair, no exceptions, also are there any 02 sensor dtc's, shorted to voltage, this wil make pcm do stupid things to trans shift, affecting gov signals. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.

Shifting very slow

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If the shifting is slow then the problem will surely be on the transmission fluid. If the transmission fluid is burnt the transmission tends to shift slower than expected. If the fluid is new and problem still persists, you may have a faulty torque converter. The torque converter controls the shifting of the car. Once the torque converter is replaced, a smooth drive and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Shift of auto-transmission on a 2002 ford f-150 need to adjust

Most aftermarket performance programmers will adjust your shift points along with your enging parameters. As far as turning a screw or something on board of your pickup, no.

The slave cylinder for your clutch has a valve in it, which keeps the clutch from engaging too quickly. The purpose is to keep you from just dumping the clutch and wreaking havoc on your transmission. If you're confident that you don't need that extra safety device in there, you can remove it, just google slave cylinder valve removal. It will give your clutch more of an aftermarket feel.

Auto transmission not smooth 1st to 2nd

Admitting a lack of familiarity with your car, this is often caused by an improper adjustment of the transition point from one gear (or clutch) to another.
1st is still not disengaged when 2nd is engaging but this is normally an adjustable point.

I've also seen this caused by the use (or adding) of the wrong fluid; the beasts are fussy about that sometimes.
