I have a 1994 gmc jimmy. it started at first with losing power on small hills to where I would have to pull over and wait a few minutes and then start it again and no?w it smokes when you drive it. Could it be caused by using the wrong transmission fluid?

If you have smoke coming out of the tailpipe, it's not likely the transmission. Smoke coming out of the tailpipe is an engine problem, possibly rings. Rings will cause loss of power, too, as well as increased oil consumption.

i know the camp verde hill of which you speak , last vehicle in the shop with that same scenario , after doing everything possible including a catalyst check , as we could not duplicate the problem , we replaced fuel pump at owners request and next trip he confirmed it was a fix .

Fuel pump. Listen for sound of pump when you first turn key. Have someone listen at tank when you first turn key. Costly part but most successful fix for most fuel problems.

Make sure all your injector connectors are clean and not corroded. make sure you have the correct resistor sparkplugs. And if both of those things are okay you probably have a bad direct ignition cassette.

94 gmc jimmy will not start

You have to determine a few things. Are you getting spark at the plugs? Are you getting fuel to the injectors? You can also read the engine codes to see what codes are stored in there.
