Question about 1987 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

I hav no power on acceleration after warmed up and driven awhile, what could cause this?

Once the car warms up and is driven a bit, for no reason at all the car looses power, the engine does not die, but it wont accelerate. If you turn off the key and restart the vehicle, it acts fine for an undetermined amount of time then it will act up again. very intermittent.

All good ideas but I would have yo saycheck your fuel line. Any section that has a rubber hose in it should be checked. Chances are they rubber line has softened threw out the years and when your motor is demanding motor fuel the line is collapsing and restricting the flow of fuel. Hen your car is cold it don't happen because the lines are cold but soften up later due to the heat from the motor

SOURCE: car dies when stopping or slowing down, hesitates on acceleration

check for a vacuum leak, you could possibly hear a whistle under the hood,or you can spray starter fluid near the intake manifold where the suspect leak could be and if the engine accelerates it has an vacuum leak, try the simple things first, can also be a clogged PCV valve,it is in the valve cover somewhere and it will have a rather large rubber hose going to the intake manifold

Ika, has it started back? If not, it may be a timing belt/chain broke. If it cranks, it may be a fuel pump, filter, pinched gas lines, or bad fuel injectors. It may be a problem in the ignitions. Spark plugs, coils, wires, distributor, coil pack, dist.cap, If it is not cranking, check ignition fuse. Check battery, wires, and whole charging system. If it is just dying on you and it starts back, it may be a map sensor, idle sensor or throttle sensor possibly. Need a little more info please.

When car is idle it will rev from 2000 rpms to 1000 rpms and it will do so for a little bit. but after car has been driven awhile it runs fine.

You have a vac leak. It's related to cold vs hot. Possibly throttle body gasket. IE: when it warms up the metal expands and seals the leak, when cold it contracts and exposes leak.

Problems accelerating

the engine tickover is too slow when the engine is cold its running on cold start, ie:choke,, after it warms up the engine slows down this is what is causing it to stall in gear,, get some one to hold the brakes hard on and with the engine running in gear ajust the tick over till its reving at 750 - 850 rpm the revs will go up a bit when its out of gear,, before you pick a gear to go into push the foot brake down to stop the car lurching,,,

Noises in my 99 ford taurus

My first thought is to have the Catalytic converter inspected. Many time the converters will have the insides break away and begin to float around, the insides of the converters look like a honey comb and after the engine is good and hot the dislodged piece will adhere to the other parts of the honey comb thus making the rattle go away.
