Check your air inlet hose(large black rubber hose from air filter to engine)for any cracks, especially between ribs. When there are cracks, when you accelerate it flexes open and creates a giant vacuum leak causing your van to die. Other things to check would be coolant temp sensor, not switch, and have the vehicle scanned if possible.

SOURCE: ENGINE STALLS WHEN I STEP ON GAS PEDAL

Sounds like your fuel pump is going bad! The more you press on the pedal the more demand is on the pump and it cant keep up cuz its junk. Try to limp it to a shop to replace it, unless u wanna do that yourself.....

SOURCE: wont hold idle will start with foot depressing gas pedal will run with foot on gas but stalls when foot removed

Check and clean Idle air control valve. Make sure its responding to signal as well. Also make sure ther are no vacuum hoses disconnected. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to start.

SOURCE: 1996 mercury mystique stalls when I stop a red light

I am a Ford tech (35 years) and this is the cause of the problem in about 90% of the cars I see with this problem.
Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

My 99 Villager has a reaccuring idle problem. After warming up and a few miles of driving the idle will sputter at a red light and sometimes stall. I recently got a tune up but the problem still remains....

Buy a 1 gallon fuel can, and when it does it again, turn it off (if it has'n yet) pour the gas inside the gas tank and try to turn it again, if it does start right away, it may be a bad fuel pump, this because after a time it gets hot and looses power, the cold gas will cool it down and make it work again... Good luck

I have a 1994 mercury villager and its beginning to sputter.. it will only sputter when its in drive .. the idling is rough like it wants to stall out but wont and when you step on the gas it is sluggish...

ford and mercury v6s are known for bad coil packs a visual inspection will show cracking in the case and rust showing through if the converter is cloggged it will be much much hotter in front of the converter than the back

4 cyl Engine starts and idles ok...give it throttle and it dies

I need to get a clear mental picture of what exactly is happening.

With this said, you stated that the car "runs fine" until warmed up.

Q: When you start the car when cold it idles fine?
Q: If you allow the car to idle until "fully" warmed does the car stall?
Q: As the car begins to warm up, Does the RPM fluctuate abnormally?
Q: Does the car Only stall when you press on the gas pedal or does it stall just sitting and idling in addition to pressing the gas pedal?
Q: If you can drive it while cold does the car stall during acceleration when warm or only at Stop Signs / Lights?
Q: If you wait 20min or so, can you start the car again?
Q: How many miles are on the car?

1996 Mercury Villager with idle problems

does your villager have check engine light on? If you do I suggest to buy a "Actron Scanner" you can get that cheap online. If you have the OBD code you can research more detail.
My 98 villager usually stops running when it was very cold. After I changed sparks plugs and radiator flush it doing better. How is the temperature meeter? If it is very low always, change the thermostat.
