Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealership. Ask them to replace your ECU per TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) TC015-07. The new ECU has redesigned logic that rectifys your condition.

DUE A LITTLE TUNE UP CHANGE AIR FILTER AND FUEL FILTER.SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY ENGINE FAULTS BAD PLUGS DIRTY INJECTORS ANY THING UP SET FUEL SYSTEM CAUSE CAR TO RUN RICH.EXCESSIVE UNBURN FUEL WILL GATHER IN CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAUSE IT TO BURN OUT.SHORTING LIFE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

This is very common on Matrix/Corollas and is repairable by way of replacement PCM to correct invalid parameters. the labor is low but the part is very expensive.

Expect approximately $89 or less in labor, and $648 for the new PCM

Some 2005 - 2007 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle may exhibit a harsh shift condition and a M.l.L. ON" with DTC P2716 stored.
Improvements have been made to the Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term:
Powertrain Control Module/PCM) to reduce the possibility of this condition occurring.

^ 2005 - 2007 model year Corolla and Matrix (2WD) vehicles equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine.
Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
