Engine dies randomly.
This is normally the crank angle sensor.
SOURCE: 2000 beetle will die at random times, and will not start for about 15 minutes!
this can be caused by a bad fuel filter or dirty injectors. try a bottle of fuel injector or fuel system cleaner in a tank of gas. i suggest lucas products which can be found at any parts store.

check fuel pump in tank could be overheating and going bad they have a thremal sensor that shuts the pump off to prevent a fire

not sure here as to the correct layout of this engine but please forgive me as i blame my age but on the side of the butterfly on this engine ,right side from front is a box with 3 torx screws or is it four anyway this when removed has a carbon twin track check this out as often this wears out and then the engine will not idle .Use a multi meter to test the tracks for continuety ,now do you need to know about a humber hawk or MKIV zodiac as well .

Take the ignition module to an auto zone to have it tested.
Back when computer control was new people had thought when the module is bad that the vehicle would not run, period. That is not true.
