I have the same problem with my 2002 grand am and its the oil sensor sending unit it has a straight stream coming out. It sits right above the starter and saturates the starter with oil. It looks you could be leaking oil in many different spots. It looks like an oxygen sensor and very easy to change. If the threads are frozen from heat spray it with wd40 and let it sit for a while before loosening the sensor. Some oil will come out, I suggest draining the oil and disconnecting the battery because the starter is so close to the sensor before doing this job. I hope this helps you.
The crankshaft sensor is located on the driver side of the vehicle, above the differential housing. The bottom of the sensor sits above the drive plate.
Drivers side just above oil pan just behind differential
Disconnect the negative and positive battery cable.
Remove the battery.
Unlock and disconnect electrical connector from crankshaft position sensor.
I am thinking that you mean crankshaft sensor. The sensor is located on the front of the engine block right above the starter you need to drop the starter and oil filter to remove the sensor. Joe
