2000 S10 Blazer Transmission

My daughters Blazer started to "klunk" when it changed gears yesterday. Today she has no or very little power and no reverse. Putting the car into reverse causes a high pitch whine. Car does move forward. I have not tried to push it backward out of the parking place to see if it has 1 gear only or not.

OK, The fluid level is to the mark. Not bright red but does not smell burnt. She was able to pull into a parking lot so we were able to push it back enough to get out of the parking spot. I was able to drive forward. It has lost second gear. I was able to drive it home in third and drive. No second and no reverse gears. I think the Klunk was when it tried to shift from first to third on the hill she was on. Does this give anyone any ideas. I will try Molson02536 ideas tonight and see if that works. Have been quoted 1400 - 1650 for a rebuild. Is that about the average price if we have to get that far?

    Thanks Joe in TN

Check the transmission fluid and see it's condition. Make sure it's at the proper level, the whining noise sounds like the transmission has low line pressure which would be a bad transmission pump. The "klunk" was the line pressure being high and low right now could ba a faulty transmission pressure line servo. Newer automatic transmission designs often use many pressure control solenoids, and sometimes allow the shift solenoids themselves to provide precise pressure control during shifts by romping the solenoid on and off. The shift pressure affects the shift quality (too high a pressure will result in rough shifting; too low a pressure will cause the clutches to overheat) and shift speed. Check the fuse box at the end of the dash on the driver's side and look for the transmission fuse and make sure it's not bad. You can also try resetting the ECM by placing the ignition to the run position and pulling the ECM (BATT) fuse out for 30 seconds and placing it back in and starting the jimmy. It may stall but let it and don't touch anything. Just restart the engine and everything should be like the way it came off the assembly line and hope the transmission come back to life till you can get it to a transmission shop for a proper scan. Good luck and hope this helps. keep me posted, be glad to help.

2002 chev blazer 14600kms doesnt want to go into 4wdr all the time klunking and grinding then go,s in

Your need to have the gears synchronized, this is right out of the manual that came with your blazer. If your light blinks and does not go in 4HI and 4LO, then the gears are out of sync. And should not go into anything but 2HI. Some grinding can come from your CV joints or wheel bearings, You would only hear that when rolling though.

Blazer transmission not shifting properly beetween 1 and 2

Your going to have to get the ECM scanned, Auto Zone scan's for free and most garage now will scan for $10.00 to $15.00 since they all have the scanners now and need the business.
You could have a Vehicle Velocity Sensor (V V S)  going bad or the wire harness it self. The V.V.S tells the ECM how fast the drive shaft is rotating and calculate's what gear it should be in relative with the engine speed and throttle position, and transmission fluid pressure.
Regardless you need the Blazer scanned to pin point why your transmission is shifting the way it is. Could be as simple as time for transmission oil and filter change for $125.00 or a loose wire harness.
Check your transmission fluid and try not to run the blazer to hard, to replace the transmission start at $1,900.00 for a rebuilt.
Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted

Transmission issue, when in reverse heard a clunk, then a whining sound....later there was no reverse...2001 chevy blazer I had the exact same thing happen just today on a 2000 Chevy Blazer. Two weeks...

The loss of 2nd 4th and reverse is a common failure on the 4L60E. What happens is the reaction shell has separated from the sun gear. Often a whole transmission is cheaper simply because the remanufactured unit from GM are reasonably priced and the warranty is 3yr 100,000 miles.
