Sorry to say someone will have to have tools ready to check it the next time it quits running. Could be a relay, the ignition module, the coil, or anything else that can get hot and stop working.
You should be able to drive 2 miles if the leak is as you described. Fill the radiator with cold water before leaving. You could also take water with you, stop halfway home, let it cool for about 20 min. fill again and drive the rest of the way. I hope this is helpful.
When the engine is stopped, your fuel pump will only run for 1 second when you turn the key on This is not long enough if you have run out of gas. You will need to turn the key on and off at a few seconds interval for about 2 minutes. This should get the fuel through and pressurise the fuel rail Once there is fuel pressure in the rail, the engine will start..
Starter Have a friend turn the key to the start position while you tap the starter with a hammer. If the starter is going bad but has not completely failed most of the time it will start when you tap on it.
Ignition switch If the key turnes easily and lights, radio, etc. come on when it is in the on position I don't think it is the switch. Plus if the starter has never been replaced I'd say the chance that is the problem is very high.
1. Turn ignition switch on but don't start the engine. Push ENG MET button on the trip monitor ONE time.
2. Press ENG MET one more time within 5 seconds. Within 5 seconds press and hold the RANGE button (90-94) or the GUAGE button on 95 Vettes, you will see the light start to flash
3. When light stops flashing the CHANGE OIL LIGHT has been reset
You need to reprogram the security system. Hook up a battery charger. Turn the key on, the security light should flash. Leave the key on until the light stops flahing.(11 minutes) Turn the key off for 20 sec. Turn the key on, do the same thing a second time, turn the key off. Turn the key on. Do this a third time. After the third 11 minutes and the light is off, Start the truck.
When your engine not starting or quits while you driving check to see any sparks, or remove the distributor and let the auto part test it. if it no sparks or the auto part say is bad , replace it.
Your car has a bad optispark. You'll need to replace the unit. My 93 did the exact samer thing. It ran like a champ when it was cold, but the second it warmed up it died. THe one thing you can try is to let it just run, this will build up heat in the optispark unit and help to dry up the moisture that has built up inside it. It may help for the short term, however the problem is that by the time this actually starts happening the unit is already finished. THe other thing I noticed with mine was it was especially bad after a rain fall.....Hope this helps.
