Question about 2001 Buick Century

2001 buick century P0304 step on gas engine light starts flashing

I replace coil pack for #4 cylinder (other side is #1 cylinder), replaced spark plug with new one. swapped plug wire with other one where code did not show up for cylinder. Not sure what to do next. engine light is on constant, if I accelerate engine light flashes (I learned flashing engine light is major). any ideas? looked for vacuum leaks (not found). not checked injector yet.

P0304 is engine misfire #4 cylinder Several things can cause a misfire #1 electrical which you have covered #2 Mechanical Test engine compression is should be around 150 cranking and 120 running . internal valve train components can cause bad compression and the valves then self. #3 fuel injector can be the cause suggest swapping with a know good cylinder and see if misfire follows injector.

Testimonial: "wanted to update you. I pulled the oil cap off, I noticed #4 cylinder pretty much right there and found the rocker arm completely still while the car was running. Did the push rod slip? Not sure how difficult to remove the front haed gasket. looks like most items need to be removed. what's the cost and is it worth it."

    Well this looks like one of two problems here bent push rod or flat camshaft lobe . The 3 .8 liter engine has the ignition module mounted over the valve cover and the torque strut mount these will need to be removed then remove valve cover with the cover off then remove rocker arms center bolts the push rods should come straight up if rods are straight (roll them on a flat surface) then the camshaft has gone flat . engine removal is the next step in repair. Now check your cars current value on Kelly's Blue book You can do the math on it Most shops can give you and estimate ranging from $1500- to $5000. that would be to put replace the entire engine.

SOURCE: 1995 BUICK CENTURY SPARK PLUG WIRE REPLACMENT

the best method is one at a time.pull the wire by the boot and remove.then remove other end in same fashion. measure the length of the old wire the the replacement and install making sure that the boots are well seated, you will normally hear a click or feel the boot seat.continue in this fashion until all wires are replaced,then proceed to change plugs one by one making sure that the air gap is to specifications.
do not overtighten plugs ,snug is fine.

I have a 2001 toyota fourrunner showing computer codes p-0300 & p-0304. What are these codes for?

The P0300 is a random multiple misfire code, the P0304 is specific to the number 4 cylinder, a common problem for this code is a igniter/coil malfunction on the #4 cylinder, each cylinder has it's own coil, what you can do is to remove the #4 coil pack(it's the middle one on the driver's side) and switch it with coil #2 which is the first one on the driver's side, clear the codes and drive it if the code now shows P0302 replace the coil.

P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected,A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
  • If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs).. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wiresmag-glass_10x10.gif, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced.

Got a p0304 code come up on my 2002 olds Bravada, replaced camshaft and it still didnt fixed it?

P0304 Code - Cylinder #4 Misfire Detected
A P0304 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #4.

Symptoms may include:
* the engine may be harder to start
* the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plug or wire
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Running out of fuel
* Poor compression
* Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Hope helps.

flashing engine light means engine misfire. let car idle and mist the plug wires down with water, rev the engine up and down and look for little sparks jumping from the wires. and arcing wires can cause problems. before changing any bad wires check the coil packs where the wires plug in the three small boxes on the top back of motor. they are three packs with two wires each. one pack at a time take the two wires off to reveal the coil towers. have an assistant start the motor and make sure the spark goes from tower to tower. repeat on remaining two packs. if the spark goes straight down the tower the coil needs replaced. if there is no spark, the coil needs replaced.

Engine light just came on took to auto zone they gave me this code PO304 Trying to see what it is

A P0304 OBD2 code is "cylinder #4 misfire detected". The first place to start is your spark plugs. 1. Check condition and for wear. 2. check the spark plug wires or coil packs(depending on which you have).
