The sting itself is fairly obvious and is now probably gone if you can't see it, but do take care to look around inside the mouth. So close to the mouth and throat is a concern though. If you are able to access one without undue expense, take the child to an emergency dept or doctor and watch carefully for any signs of swelling in the tongue, throat and airway.
Also ask about the possibility of sensitisation and allergic reaction to future stings. All the best with this.

The only way to tell for sure is to remove the filter and blow through it. If there's little resistance, the filter is still okay and does not need to be replaced. But if there's more than minimal resistance, the filter is dirty and should be replaced.
CAUTION: Gasoline is poisonous, does not taste very good and may burn sensitive lips. So don't hold the filter to your mouth to blow through it. Instead, attach a short piece of clean rubber hose to the filter and then blow through the hose to test the filter
Use a small hose and siphon it out, then replace with new fluid. I do not suggest siphoning with your mouth, its toxic and tastes really bad, most auto parts stores carry an inexpensive device to siphon out liquids.
You can easilly pinpoint the exact source of the leak with an ultraviolet lamp and uv leak detection additive. Both are available in auto parts stores.
put a long hose down the filler tube. get a gas can and make sure it sits lower than the tank. keeping your head lower than the tank put the hose in your mouth and ****. when you taste the gas quickly move the hose into the gas can. you most likely are going to need a long thin common screwdriver to hold the flap back while you snake the hose in and out. parts stores sell siphons but it is more fun to taste the gas.
