P0022 Toyota - Camshaft Position \'A\' Timing Over-Retarded Bank 2

Possible causes

- Dirty Oil

- Faulty variable valve timing (VVT)

- Faulty oil control valve (OCV)

- Variable Valve Timing (VVT) harness is open or shorted

- Oil Control Valve (OCV) circuit is open or shorted

- Damaged Engine Control Module (ECM)

Tech notes

If the engine oil is clean and the VVT and OCV circuits are OK, replaced the VVT to resolve the problem.

When is the code detected?

After the ECM sends the target duty cycle signal to the OCV, the ECM monitors the OCV current to establish an actual duty cycle. The ECM determines the existence of a malfunction and sets the DTC when the actual duty cycle ratio varies from the target duty cycle ratio.

Possible symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

- Lack/Loss of power

- Engine rough idle

P0022 Toyota Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the Oil Control Valve (OCV) to regulate the intake camshaft angle. As a result of the angle change, the engine timing is advance or retard. Optimizing engine timing will help the engine improve torque and fuel economy, and the exhaust emissions decrease under overall driving conditions. The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system includes the Oil Control Valve (OCV) and VVT controller. The ECM detects the actual intake valve timing using signals from the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors, and performs feedback control.

POO22 "A" Camshaft Position-Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2)

Lots to read on the internet about it

Maybe a VCT Solenoid

Could be several things-Google the code & read up

I suspect when you have VVT or VCT issues, it starts with

seldom changing your motor oil & goes down hill from there,

until you have clogged cam oil passage, failed solenoids &

failed cam actuators & end up tearing the motor apart

Mostly avoidable

SOURCE: 2003 toyota sienna lift door knob broken. how to open the ldoor

The handle that broke had a little 'finger' that actuated the release mechanism. The only way to open the back hatch is to remove the inner panel and push on the release mechanism.

Once off, you can either a) buy a replacement handle (expensive) or b) do what I did and simply make a piece of L-shaped metal to lever the release mechanism from the outside.

If your handle is completely off of the door you can look up under the little plastic cover (that hides the handle) and see the slot on the right side that the release handle inserts into. You need to stick the lever into that slot, and angle it down about 30 degrees from horizontal to get under the latch mechanism, which unlocks the hatch if you pry it upwards.

Toyota Sienna 2000 Mini-van. The driver's side power window.

I have the same problem with my 2000 Sienna.Probably window motor will need replacement. Frustrating. Turns out I have a lot of the same wear and tear issues with my Sienna as others. Automatic door sticks open or continually pops open, snapped rear hatch, tire pressure sensor always on. C'mon Toyota, I hope your newer models are more robust. FYI we take VERY good care of our van.

2003 Toyota Sienna dtc p2125

Hi,

I have not come accross a P2225 error code on a Toyota (Sienna). Best I can gather is this error indicates "NOx Sensor Heater Sense Circuit Intermittent (Bank 2)". on an OBDII Code Reader.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
