SOURCE: 1994 oldsmobile cutlass supreme will not start.security flashes

Sounds like a RFID issue. Your key most likely has a chip inside of it. Most of the time people will have multiple keys on their key chain that can cause interference with the receiver in your steering column. Try using the one ignition key to start.

SOURCE: Engine will Turnover but it will not fire up

To check injector pulse, you need 2 people. One is to crank the engine. The other is to watch the voltmeter connecting to the plug delivering the electrical signal to an injector. If during a period of cranking, there is no voltage displayed that means there is no injector pulse. Here is an image of connector port going into the injector to open its valve as needed.d63fc52.jpg

SOURCE: WHERE IS THE EGR VALVE ON A 1990 OLDSMOBLE CUTLASS

6ff5ad5.jpg About $140.00

The EGR valve is mounted on the intake manifold and has an opening into the exhaust manifold.

The digital EGR valve, used on all 1990 and later EGR-equipped engines (Except the 2.5L and 1994-96 3.8L engine) is designed to control the flow of EGR independent of intake manifold vacuum. The valve controls EGR flow through 3 solenoid-opened orifices, which increase in size, to produce 7 possible combinations. When a solenoid is energized, the armature with attached shaft and swivel pintle, is lifted, opening the orifice.
The digital EGR valve is opened by the ECM, grounding each solenoid circuit individually. The flow of EGR is regulated by the ECM which uses information from the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS), Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor to determine the appropriate rate of flow for a particular engine operating condition.

Digital EGR Valve Testing:

This system must be checked using a Tech 1®or equivalent scan tool. Steps 4, 5 and 6 must be done very quickly, as the ECM will adjust the idle air control valve to compensate for idle speed.

  1. Using a Tech 1®or equivalent scan tool, check for any diagnostic trouble codes and solve those problems first. Refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) lists later in this section.
  2. Select "EGR CONTROL'' on the scan tool.
  3. Start and run the engine, until it reaches normal operating temperature, then allow the engine to idle for 2 minutes.
  4. Energize EGR SOL #1; engine rpm should drop slightly.
  5. Energize EGR SOL #2; the engine should have a rough idle.
  6. Energize EGR SOL #3; the engine should idle rough or stall.
  7. If all tests were as specified, the system is functioning properly.
  8. If not, check the EGR valve, pipe, adaptor, gaskets, fittings, and all passages for damage, leakage or plugging. If all is OK, replace the EGR valve assembly.

The first thing to check is the ignition timing then the spark plug gaps. There are specific settings/size for the above and must be correct for the car to run smoothly.

Rough idle check for vacume leaks found none. Replaced o2 sensor, egr valve, spark plugs and wires still runs rough and gets worse when you put a load on it.

I had this problem with a Mazda I had and I did everything I could think of.  Check for vac leaks again and then check air cleaner hoses.  I suggest this, because I found mine right smack dab in the crevasse of the air intake for the air cleaner.

Will a faulty E.G.R.valve on a 1988 Olds.Cut.Sup.FWD cause a hot engine to stall when stopping at corners?

well it will casue it to stall if the egr is stuck open and you stop at a light or stop sign, due to it beinge stuck open the open egr valve acts like a vacum leak,,,,ive also seen bad fuel pumps and fule filter to cause a stall while hot and cornering
