You can check the ignition module by pulling a spark plug wire and inserting an old spark plug. Any plug should do, just make sure to rest the base of the plug to a good ground source. Crank the engine while someone looks at the plug for spark.

If you go to your library you can look for free. Just not sure of location of of neutral safety switch for your year of car. In the back of motor manual is wire diagrams you will find switch there. Also GEO Prism is the same car.
  2. The last time I worked on a Prism it was a 1997 I found a bad wire connection at the shifter. Took 20 minutes to do repair and no parts.
  3. So I would check the switch in your console. Sometime they stick or a wire comes loose. Sometimes a little WD-40 shot to the switch helps.

SOURCE: 1996 camry le 6 cylinder. cannot get ignition key

Hi the steering lock could be causing you the problem try turning the steering wheel hard left whilst turning the key and do the same hard right.

it may be hard to turn but you should find once you have moved it slightly it will unlock allowing you to turn the key so dont adjust the steering wheel turn it to the right as if your trying to turn to the right and if this dont let the key turn turn the wheel to the left it only needs to move slightly to allow the steering lock to free the key,

doing the above should solve you problem

give me a shout back if you have any further problems ok

SOURCE: try to start vehicle in park, new

Try holding the key in the crcnk position while you slowly move the shift lever from park to nuetral and back to park. If at any point the vehicle tries to start while you are doing this than its the nuetral safety switch. From your description it sounds like the nuetral safety is the problem.

The battery is dead. Recharging (or replacing) the battery will remedy those symptoms you describe. Recharging the battery is a lot cheaper if you have access to a charger or can remove the battery and can take it to a service station for recharging.

Automatic has a shifter switch to assure you're in park or neutral. Clutch on stick shift has a switch too.

My car runs fine for days then i'll park somewhere and go to turn it back on and it won't start at all. It won't turn over or anything.

CHECK BATTERY CONNECTIONS, STARTER CONNECTIONS, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT DOESN'T START, TO GET IT GOING AGAIN, DO YOU GET A JUMP START IF SO CHECK CONNECTIONS.

Caravan won't start after shifter cable replaced

Make sure the transmission range selector switch is adjusted correctly it is the switch just below the shift cable post. Also try to start it in Neutral rather than park position.

My car sometimes starts in park, then other times i have to put it in neutral.. now it won`t start in park or neutral.. please help

There is a problem in what is called a transmission range sensor. This sensor lets the ignition system know the vehicle is safe to start by being in Park or Neutral. Try replacing the sensor if that doesnt fix it check the wiring of the circuit.

I have a Ford Laser Ghia 1990, when I try to start the car, the battery lights go on but there is no ignition? We also have problems with our gear box. would our gear box affect the car by making it not...

I think the only way the gear box would affect it from not starting is if it was not shifting into neutral or park. A vehicle needs to be in park or neutral to start.

04 sorento won't start

Possibley a bad or failing neutral safety switch. This allows the car to start when in either park or neutral. With your foot on the brake and the key in the run position place the gear selector to neutral and try to start. If no success try wiggling about the gear selector (gentle lets not break anything) if she fires you have your answer otherwise this may lay within the ignition switch.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
