Brake light is controlled by a switch on the brake pedal arm. The switch needs adjustment or be replaced.
Hope this helps.

Brake light switch is faulty. It is under dash near the brake pedal. They can sometimes come loose or just fail. Sometimes a small rubber grommet is misaligned or broken off.

Why do Brake lights stay on even when vehicle is switched of and locked?

The brake lights work regardless of the ignition switch. There is normally a switch mounted under the dashboard, that presses against the brake pedal hangar. Normally, when you press the brake pedal, this switch loses contact with the hangar, and the brake lights come on. If the switch gets broken or out of adjustment, the brake lights can stay on at all times. This will eventually kill the battery. Readjust or replace the brake light switch.

1995 Nissan Pathfinder Brake Lights stay on (even after new switch installed)

See if the rubber gaskets are at the top of the brake pedal. If you see two wholes, then they are not there. You might have to go to the dealler for those parts. I used a carriage bolt on the brake switch side for now with ducktape.

My brake lights won't turn off. even when vehicle

Sounds like either your brake pedal switch has somehow gotten misaligned or gone bad. Look at the top of the brake pedal and find the switch. When you push in on the brake pedal the upper part of the pedal should contact a movable button on the switch and move it either in or out (depending on which side of the pedal the switch is on). If you can see the switch contact being moved, and the lights still stay on, it sounds like the switch itself is bad.
