It could be the model of flash drive you are attempting to use. Check and make sure the car accepts the flash drive type. Some flash drives are high data transfer and will not work. Try another type/model drive. I've had this happen before and had to use an older flash drive.

all wheel drive vehicles have to work at both ends all the time unless you have a major failure in the drive train. That is why it is called all wheel drive as opposed to 4 wheel drive. With 4 wheel drive you have the option of rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive and normally in a high ratio or low ratio gear selection. With some all wheel drive vehicles there is a selector that locks the middle diff and creates a 4 wheel drive option without the high/low gear ratio option. So in practice if the both front wheels are in the bog then there is no all wheel drive as the centre diff is working as it should and placing all the action in the rear wheels which will not be turning as they have traction so the front wheels spin faster.. If you have a centre diff lock option ensure that it is operational.

You need to be more specific. To start, which 4 wheel drive system your jeep has? (Select Trac, Quadra Trac II or Quadra Drive)
Then: does it never work, or only in 4-Lo?

Something you can do is to tap the 4/4 motor under drivers side on the back of transfer case with key on engine off. Have someone work the buttons as you gently tap the motor. Don't hit so hard as to dent it. Usually works.

did you replace transmission fluid and filter at every 30000 miles intervals.sounds like transmission low on fluid slipping or transmission filter could be clogged.

Check the actuator (located under the battery plate). Remove the battery, then the plate, and you'll see something that looks like a horn attached to hoses. One side is soft, and may have a hole in it. This will cause the vacuum not to work, hence, your 4WD won't. Good luck!
