98 Chrysler Sebring where is the neutral safety switch located

Honestly I work on so many different vehicles and dont know specific location. It is only one of 3 locations. I assume the transmission is automatic so that rules out the nuetral safety switch on the pedal assembly. So that leaves automatic, which can be located on the parking pawl portion of the transmission. It is built into the selector switch that tells you what gear you are in. Or the nuetral start safety switch can be located on the shifter inside the car. Hope this helps.

How is the nuetral safety switch on a Hyundia Santa fe 06? I believe if I'm facing the car its accessible on the left side. I removed the skid plate but can't locate it.

First we need to make sure that its the neutral safety switch how did you come about that conclusion? Try this next time it will not start shift the gear into neutral and try to start it again if it starts every time you shift to neutral I would say yes start with your neutral safety switch. Your neutral safety switch is incorporated with your transmission range sensor located on the transmission follow the transmission linkage to the transmission there you should find the neutral safety switch usually black in color made of plastic with a wire harness connected to it you could get someone to shift it for you while you look to make sure you are looking at the right part.

What is a neutral safety switch?

The Neutral Safety switch monitors the position of your gear selector lever and either interrupts or allows the starting circuit in your car or truck to do its job. On newer vehicles it may also monitor the position of the brake pedal to make sure that the vehicle is in park or neutral AND that your foot is on the brake.

If your vehicle is equipped with a neutral safety switch, it should NOT start UNLESS the transmission is in Neutral or Park. On the other hand your vehicle SHOULD start when it is in Neutral or Park. If your car will start in Neutral but not in Park, you have a bad switch. Also, if your car or truck will only start by turning the key to the start position and wiggling the gear selector lever, your neutral safty switch is in need of replacement.

The nuetral safety switch is usually found near the gear shifter. If your car has the gear shift on the column, then the neutral safety switch is usully mounted on the steering column near the brake pedal. On floor mount or console mount vehicles you will find the nuetral safety switch mounted near or on the shifter mechanism.

Try to start vehicle in park, new battery, alternator, serpentinebelt, dash signals come on,nothing. Try to start in neutral, ok. Try again inpark, nothing, then neutral, nothing? Park safty switch, or...

Try holding the key in the crcnk position while you slowly move the shift lever from park to nuetral and back to park. If at any point the vehicle tries to start while you are doing this than its the nuetral safety switch. From your description it sounds like the nuetral safety is the problem.

Trying to locate the nuetral safety switch in 1990 GMC 1/2 ton

The back-up light switch is incorporated into the neutral/park safety switch. The neutral safety switch on 1988-94 models is mounted in the steering column.

Neutral Start/Back-Up Switch
The procedure is for switches that are mounted on the transmission only.
This adjustment is performed with the switch removed from the vehicle. Neutral position tool J 41364-A or its equivalent is required for this procedure.
  1. Position tool J 41364-A or its equivalent onto the park/neutral switch. make sure that the slots on the switch are lined up with the lower tabs on the tool.
  2. Rotate the tool until the upper locator pin on the tool is lined with the slot on the top of the switch.
Do not remove the tool from the switch.
  1. Install the switch and remove the tool.

Hope this helped (remember rated this post).
