Why wont my 2006 ford five hundred move when placed into any gear? Good transmission fluid and checked all linkage to it. this has to be a problem inside the transmission, but what can it be?

Must of ford, mercury, lincolns have this problem, you may see the transmission fluid good and the color of it red that means it hasn't burned clutches the problem with this transmission is that they break a lot of there pumps, I just replaced one recently and it came out in little pieces the good news is you don`t have to bring down the tranny it can be replaced through the side of the tranny......

Which transmission does it have ? Automatic Transaxle - 6 Speed or the CVT continuously variable transaxle (CVT) that permits the engine to operate at its most efficient running speeds. There are no discrete gear shifts and no interruptions in the power flow during acceleration. Instead, optimum use is always made of the engine's potential to transmit its full torque to the wheels. Since this is a continuously variable transaxle, there is an infinite number of gear ratios, so that the optimum engine operating point can always be found. Like the engine, it is located transversely in the vehicle. The mechanical section of the automatic transaxle contains 2 pressure controlled variator assemblies, a high performance chain and a single planetary gear set. The variator assemblies function as pulleys. One is connected to the engine output through the converter. The other is connected to the driveline through the transaxle differential. The chain passes around the pulleys connecting the transaxle input and output. The axial distance on each pulley where the chain travels can be varied. As the axial distance on one pulley decreases (becomes narrow) the other pulley increases (becomes wider) creating the speed (gear) ratio between them. This ratio varies continuously. The chain length remains constant. The single planetary gear set is used to change the rotation of the pulley assemblies for forward or reverse driving ranges. A combined hydraulic and electronic control system (mechatronic) is used to control the transaxle function. The mechatronic is located inside the transaxle. The CVT uses a torque converter with a lock-up clutch.

Is the check engine light lit ? or any other warning lights on the dash .

    Diagnostic Strategy
Troubleshooting an electronically controlled automatic transaxle is simplified by using the proven method of diagnosis. One of the most important things to remember is that there is a definite procedure to follow.

NOTE: Do not take short cuts or assume that critical checks or adjustments have already been made.

Follow the procedures as written to avoid missing critical components or steps.

To correctly diagnose a concern, have the following publications available:

    Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual
    OASIS Messages
    Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)
    Wiring Diagram
These publications provide the information required when diagnosing transaxle concerns.

Use the Diagnostic Flow Chart as a guide and follow the steps as indicated.

    Preliminary Inspection

Know and understand the customers concern.
Verify the concern by operating the vehicle.
Check the fluid levels and condition.
    Check for non-factory add-on items.
Check shift linkages for correct adjustment.
Check TSBs and OASIS messages regarding the concern.
    Diagnostics

Carry out on-board diagnostic procedures Key On/Engine Off (KOEO) and Key On/Engine Running (KOER).
Record all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Repair all non-transaxle DTC codes first.
Repair all transaxle DTC codes second.
Erase all continuous codes and attempt to repeat them.
    Repair all continuous codes.
If only pass codes are obtained, go to Diagnosis By Symptom in this section for additional information and diagnosis.
Follow the diagnostic sequence to diagnose and repair the concern the first time.

When I put my gear into Reverse, Netrual and Drive the gear is getting stiff to move. Why is this happening?

If you mean the shifter is getting hard to move, its probably the shift linkage sticking, try a couple squirts of pblaster or other penetrating oil. If the motion of the vehicle is getting hard to drive in reverse and drive the torque converter may be the issue.

When I put my 2006 ford Five Hundred in Reverse, Netrual and Drive, the gear is getting stiff to move. Why is this happening?

Has Coke or anything that goes sticky been spit around gear shift? I have had this before & had to pull console apart & clean with spray & wipe.

I have a 2006 Ford Five Hundred and the transmission is slipping. I need to be able to check the transmission fluid to see if it is low. How to I check the transmission fluid?

You may not be able to really. Some of these have dipsticks and some do not. CVT transmissions do not but some 6 speed transmissions do. If you do have one it should be near the air filter box. IF you have one....put the vehicle in park and start it up. Leave it running at an idle for several minutes until its good and hot. While it is running and hot, pull the stick and check the level. (be very careful) Fluid should be red in color and at the point on the stick where is says warm. If it is brown, you have trouble, if it is low, you have trouble. ie leak. Either way you look at it. ANY time a tranny slips it DOES cause further damage. I recommend a tranny shop

Would like to service my 2006 ford Five Hundred transmission. I am told that it takes a very special and expensive fluid. Is the job strait forward other than that?

I own a "06" 500 with 150,000 miles on it. My Ford dealer recommended transmission service at around 90,000 miles. I don't recall the exact cost but it didn't seem unreasonable, around $140.00. No special pump out or filtration, just drain and refill.

06 ford focus 5spd. no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

I have a 97 VW Golf auto trans, I have no reverse gear, no noise when placed in gear it just wont move, all forward gears work fine, any ideas for me

Check your fluid level to make sure its up to the specified level, then I'd be checking out your linkage from your shifter inside the car right to the transmission, it sounds like to me your linkage may be worn enough to put the vehicle in drive but not reverse. The linkage bushings are a common problem on vdubs. See if you can put the car in reverse by moving the linkage arm directly attached to the transmission (make sure you have someone in the car with the brakes on or caulk the wheels) if it does go into reverse when you manually move the direct linkage arm at the transmission then replace your linkage bushings, if not then the only other problem would be a transmission internal problem. Good luck
