When the current to the radio is interfered with the radio setting assumes that it is being stolen (anti-theft program) and switches off. You will need the security code for the radio and will have to entre it into the radio before it will work again. There are sites on the net that have a range of codes for wirelesses unless it is in the vehicle hand book from the dealer when new. If you are the original owner then the code should be available from the dealer that you bought it from.

SOURCE: THE 1998 TOYOTA AVALON ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON

Don't take a chance on what the dealer says, when the engine light comes on take it and have the code read and it will tell you what is going on. The light must be on at the time the code is read though or it won't tell you anything. Most auto parts stores will do it for free.

SOURCE: Toyota Avalon 1998 A/C Push Button

If when button is pushed in it stays in the AC-light lights up, then you may have another problem like a leak in the system N0/low Freon in system and AC would n't work. But if the switch doesn' t stay push in when its pushed then the switch is BAd and needs to be replace and that will solve the problem. If the switch stays push in with NO AC light on then you may have a bad Ac fuse. Good luck and thanks for using Fix Ya

this is the part that surrounds the lock driver side. Car color is green cary, North Carolina 27513
The solenoid or actuator arm for the door lock assembly is probably not working to full spec.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1997 Avalon radio theft problem

Some dealers put the radio's antitheft code in the owners manual. If it's not there call your local dealer and they can reset the code for a fee.

Our new 1998 avalon starts, lights work, but no directionals, radio, and car won't go into gear. HELP!

As far as going into gear you have an override switch on the console of the trans to push and get out of park. Check your brake lights. If they aren't working the brake light switch controls the shift interlock solenoid. Fis it and you can now shift.
