Well not having overdrive has nothing to do with the motor you are having transmisson trouble and the first thing you need to do is get the tranni serviced flushed new filter and put a quart of lucas tranni treatment in i have seen that stuff stop tranni slip it worked in the 1999 envoy i have right now and do not floor it any more that will send your tranni to a early grave

91 Mitsubishi Pajero, wont start get power to the power solenoid when turnig the key. What would be causing this problem?

Check the start fuse first. Then try to start it neutral, not park. It could be the fuse, the safety neutral switch, or the ignition switch. My guess would be the neutral saftey switch.

What is the meaning and function of O/D off-onn ( overdrive function )

this function allows you the option to turn overdrive off for towing purposes. when your vehicle shifts into overdrive the output shaft of the transmission spins faster than the input to keep engine rpms down and maintain fuel economy. by going into overdrive your vehicle loses torque which is why turning off overdrive for towing makes the pull easier by keeping rpms and torque higher

No overdrive on a 2.8 pajero and then speedo stopped working

In 2.8 Pajero the speedo receive electronic signal from the VSS sensor, but if the speedo for any reason stop working, O/D will stop work because the Trans ECU needs signal from the speedometer electronics to made the gear change into O/D

No verdrive on my v46 mits pajero

I'd check the overdrive solenoid atop of the tranny. Apply 12V + to it and see if it will go in to OD. If it does you will need to check the OD relay or temp switch. Or rewire a new switch.

Thanks,
Tom
