SOURCE: no break light, can not shift gear.

your brake light switch has failed. this will also allow you to shift out of park when you hit the brake pedal. when you hit the brake pedal the brake light should come on and the shift interlock solenoid will activate(you might hear a clicking sound under the dash or near the shift handle) allowing you to shift out of park.

SOURCE: Problem with my 2007 Toyota FJ cruiser trailer light connection

There are two fuses for the tail light circuits. That bare wire caused a short, which popped the fuse for the trailer lights circuit. Look at the fusebox under the hood, and you will be able to fix it.

2007 Impala stuck in park and gear override silver button won't work. Can't figure out the problem please help

If your 2007 Impala is stuck in park and the gear override silver button doesn't work, there may be a few potential problems that are causing the problem. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting solutions you can try: Brake light switch: The most common cause of this problem is a faulty brake light switch. The brake light switch is responsible for sending a signal to the shift interlock solenoid to release the shifter when the brake pedal is depressed and can prevent the shifter from releasing if the switch does not operate properly. Make sure your brake lights work by pressing on the brake pedal. If they don't work, it's probably a brake light switch issue that needs to be replaced. Shift Interlock Solenoid: The shift interlock solenoid is a mechanism that prevents the shifter from moving without pressing the brake pedal If the solenoid is faulty or a blown fuse can cause the shifter to go into park. Check the fuse connected to the shift interlock system and replace if necessary. If the fuse is good, the solenoid may need to be replaced. Shift Cable: The shift cable connects the shifter to the transmission and allows you to change gears. Damaged, loose, or misaligned cables can prevent the shifter from leaving the parking space. Inspect the shift cable for any obvious issues and make sure it is securely attached to the shifter and transmission. Shift lock control module: Some vehicles have a shift lock control module that ensures proper operation of the shift interlock system. Malfunction of this module can cause the problem. It may be necessary to use a diagnostic scan tool to check for any error codes associated with the module. Ignition switch: Faulty ignition under certain conditions

How to put 2007 Chrysler300 gear into natural when the car battery is dead and the key stopped working

If you're unable to push the gear shift into neutral in a 2007 Chrysler 300 when the car battery is dead and the key has stopped working, there is a solution that can help. You can locate the shift interlock override mechanism to manually put the vehicle into neutral. First, remove the plastic cover or cap located near the gear lever to reveal the shift interlock override slot. Insert a small screwdriver or a similar tool into the slot and apply gentle pressure while simultaneously attempting to move the gear lever into neutral. This should release the shift interlock mechanism and allow you to shift the car into neutral. It's important to exercise caution and consult the vehicle's manual for precise instructions tailored to your specific model, as the process may vary slightly.

I have a Lexus RX300 1999 model and have this recent problem. engine running normally but gear gets stuck in Parking mode and won't shift. had to depress the emergency button on the gear shift and

Hi there,

Some automatic vehicles rely on the brake switch (mounted on brake pedal) to be activated by depressing brake pedal. This signal then operates a relay and switch, to release the gear lever.

Firstly, I would check the brake pedal switch (are your brake lights working?).

If brake switch is confirmed OK, then inspect the relay (and related circuit components) of the gear release switch.

Gear shift will not move from park

First thing to check is your brake lights. The brake interlock for the shifter relies on the switch that turns your brake lights on. If it's not working, you won't have brake lights OR the ability to move the shifter out of park. In an emergency, most of these vehicles have a small plug near the shifter that you can remove, push a button, and move the shifter without pushing the brake pedal.

Good luck.

How do you remove shifter being stuck at park for a 1990 toyota camry?

For the short term and as a temporary measure, the shift lever can be released by depressing shift lock override button which is in a small hole next to the shifter, typically covered with a small piece of plastic.

A permanent fix is needed though. The transmission shifter has a safety interlock. You must depress the brake to release the interlock in-order to shift into a drive or reverse gear. This system is powered by electricity. The fuse may be blown. Check the fuses for faults. The brake pedal / brake light circuit must be functioning in order to put the car in gear. Check the blue 10amp brake light fuse. Make sure the wiring in the trunk does not have breaks that may cause the fuse to blow

Car will not go out of park 2002 mountaineer is stuck in park - will crank but cannot put in gear

CLICK HERE FOR YOUR OWNERS MANUAL in PDF format.

Check your shift interlock switch on the brake pedal. If it is out of alignment or has failed the shifter will not unlock to enable a gear selection.

Also - a fuse may be blown, or you may have a taillight out.

You can manually unlock it in emergency situations.
Taken from P.181 of the manual......

Brake-shift interlock
This vehicle is equipped with a brake-shift interlock feature that prevents
the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is
in the ON position unless brake pedal is depressed.
If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in
the ON position and the brake pedal depressed:
1. Apply the parking brake, turn ignition key to LOCK, then remove the
key.
2. Locate the access cover plate to
the brake-shift interlock override. It
is located on the underside of the
steering column.
3. Rotate the access panel
(counterclockwise) with a flat head
screw driver until it is lined up to
the access hole in the open position.
4. Insert a tool (or screw driver) into the access hole to override the
brake-shift interlock. Apply the brake and shift into Neutral.
5. Return the cover plate (rotate
clockwise) to the closed position.
Start the vehicle.

If it is necessary to use the above procedure to move the gearshift lever,
it is possible that a fuse has blown or the vehicle’s brakelamps are not
operating properly. Refer to Fuses and relays in the Roadside
emergencies
chapter.
