Does it keep running till the batt is flat? It could be the aircon condenser fan running - on the left as you stand in front of the car. This is a common prob with A3s of this age.
I have a '05 3.2L Quattro V6 and suffered the same prob. The batt is in the boot of the V6 and is sealed like Fort Knox so impossible to disconnect. After about 3 days with this the fan running constantly and having to put a charger on it every night I let the batt run completely flat to try and reset the complete system - no DIS lights - no starter motor clicks - DEAD. Then I jump started it and the prob disappeared completely. Everything is working perfectly ncluding the aircon. That was 4 days ago and 'touch wood' I've had no probs since. I know this won't work for everyone but it's worth a try before forking out £300+ for a new condenser fan unit. Good luck!

Check up each glow plug and replace if necessary. I recommend you to change all glow plugs of the engine.

Does it take a long time of cranking to start?
a) if you can, check if you fuel system holds pressure; should hold pressure for a long time
b) a failed/bad coolant temperature sensor can send a wrong signal to the ECU (often telling the computer that the engine is -60 degree cold for example), which can result in poor cold starts. One way of verifying is connection with VCDS (VAGcom) and read the coolant temperature in the engine module AND in the instrument cluster (and compare with temperature shown in the insturment cluster. All 3 should be 'reasonably close' and realistic.

Audi a3 , 2009 ever since it had a complete interior detail it has played up with lights on dash coming on and off , even with key out of igntion

If you have changed the instrument cluster to a different one then the ecu will detect it and throw the flashing need to reset the ecu via obd scan and correct Audi software...or take it to a dealer to reset. Before you do this it is assumed you checked ALL the connections are inserted correctly into back of cluster.

There is a wrench icon near the dashboard. Push it when the car is stationary (it won't work when the car is moving) and you will see the other functions.
