SOURCE: 1997 dodge intrepid 3.3 replaced pcm (rebuilt) still shorts out battery

Well, if something is shorting out the battery in a couple of days, it should be generating alot of heat like a small toaster.
You might try disconnecting the battery and hooking up a test light to check for a voltage draw. If a draw is present, you can either disconnect the fuses one at a time or large circuits to find the area of the short.

Charging system,late model Chrysler vehicles

2000 year and newer chrysler products put the voltage regulator in the PCM. If the regulator fails the replacement ECM is about 800.00<br /> An earlier ,say 1987,electronic firewall mounted regulator( 2wire) can be simply wired in for about 20 bucks.<br /> One alternator fld terminal to the new regulator, the other fld lead to the center terminal of the regulator ,this fld wire must also be tied into ign.+<br /> Be sure not to apply ign. voltage to the right side terminal or you will fry the regulator.

07 passat code p0642 related to other codes

code p0642 refers to ECM-knock control defective or sensor reference voltage A circuit low or system voltage- malfunction===causes for ecm is ECM--- for voltage A wiring is short to positive --- for system voltage ---wiring--poor connection--battery---alternator
code p2014 refers to intake manifold air control actuator position sensor/ switch bank 1 circuit malfunction=== causes --wiring --intake manifold air control actuator position sensor/switch
code p0106 refers to manifold absolute pressure MAP sensor/barometric pressure sensor-range/performance problem===causes--intake /exhaust leak--wiring--MAP sensor---Baro sensor.
code p0089 refers to fuel pressure regulator --performance problem===causes--fuel pressure regulator--mechanical fault. I would suggest that you have the battery load tested and the alternator checked for correct output as it may be the common reason for the codes .P0089 will not be electrical as it being a mechanical fault then the regulator needs replacing

We have a 1979 bronco with a 460 put into it... i am willing to take any suggestions b/c im at my wits end, went through countless solinoids, an alternator and a starter, and still the truck does not...

several possibilities. 1) Take you battery to your local auto parts place and have it checked. 2) make sure that there is no corrosion on the battery terminals. 3) place a volt meter on the battery while it is running. If it is 13.6V to 14.3V that it is charging. If it is lower, than the voltage regulator (should be on the firewall or fender) is probably defective. 4) check the wiring between the voltage regulator and the battery. Good luck!

94 ford ranger 2.3 stnd 2wd, jerks and backfires after warms up, unpluged new alternator, starts running normal again. replaced alternator different brands, same problem. getting 14.5 volts on alternator...

talk with an auto electrician as there are now many alternators that are controlled by the ECM ( voltage regulator is in the ECM) 14.5 volts -14.38 volts is good voltage control so the problem may not be the regulator at all
problem could be a shorting diode in the circuit or other problems not connected to either the alternator or regulator such as wiring shorting out , bad connections etc
may even be an ECM problem

1996 Isuzu Rodeo Voltage drops when vehicle accelerates. Have replaced the alternator w/o resolving the problem.

The usual cause for this to happen is either a loose or worn belt; or that the battery cables are dirty and need cleaned. To clean properly take the cables off and clean the ends and post with a wire brush or sand paper; then reattach and tighten.

My 7.3 L diesel ford f-250 shows the battery light (check charge system) on in the dash. I tried to drive it and the voltage gauge started dropping into the 10-11 v range. I replaced the alternator...

You must have an older vehicle, but I am pretty sure the 7.3 was put out after the voltage regulator was put in the alternator. What you are describing is a voltage regulator on the the firewall. If this is so,replace the voltage regulator on the firewall, with a new one. This will be the problem most likely. The voltage regulator on the firewall should be kind of flat, almost square, and a wide plug, goes all the way across the voltage regulator. If You don`t have external regulator, then it is built in the alternator, and the alternator you purchased is bad.Be sure the wires on the back of the alternator are not broken anywhere. The big post ,largest wire,on the back of the alternator is the out put wire.It should go to the battery. If it does not have 13.65 to 14.25 volts on the back of the alternator, and at the battery positive post.Like I said,I believe the voltage regulator is on the firewall,if it looks like I described, then it is a regulator, replace this part(voltage regulator)and it will solve your problem.I hope this was some help, please let us know, thank you.
