If you have any of the large chain auto parts stores in your area, call them and ask if they do free scans; most do.
If Subaru has maintained the same procedures for a while, and you have checked fluids, etc., you can try resetting the light via the ignition switch:
-Turn on the ignition (don't start) - switch it rapidly between the 'ignition on' and 'ignition off' positions three times.
If the error has cleared itself (not uncommon), the check light will reset. If the problem is still present, it will either stay or come back on.
Our Su has done this a couple of times and with the scanner we have on hand, there was never any particular repeated problem. Just a computer glitch/hiccough -

SOURCE: 1997 Subaru Outback impreza engine overheats

Do the cooling fans come on?And do they go off?Or do the fans come on and stay on?If the cooling fans come on,and then the cooling fans ,or fan, goes off, then the system may not be over heating. If the engine is over heating for sure, and the fans come on,but don`t go off, replace the thermostat. Then you need to bleed the cooling system of air.The coolant will not circulate if there is air in the cooling system. Also, the water pump blades on the inside(in the water jacket)could be worn down,or have ome off. This would cause the problem also.If I can help, any further, please let me know.>>[email protected]

SOURCE: I just got a 1999 Subaru Impreza (Outback Sport)

First check for an owners manual(it will say), if there isn't one a lot times there will be a sticker on the inside of the gas lid saying what to use. However, unless to vehicle is turbo or is higher compression than stock, i am quite certain 87 octane will suffice.

Testimonial: "Thanks. No owner's manual but this is what I figured."

See if you have lock out coverage on your auto insurance, and call an automobile locksmith.

yes. check the wire to the tag light, also any wire you can see in the chassis. your problem is most likely to be outside. best luck to you

Cant find clutch master cylinder Subaru outback impreza sport 1997.

On most cars the clutch master cylinder is generally mounted to the firewall next to the brake master cylinder, HOWEVER quite a number of manual transmissions have cable operated clutches, and if I remember correctly Subaru was one of them.

97subaru impreza outback sport wagon 2.2 1234 misfire replaced plugs ,wires, coil pack, fuel filter added injector cleaner check engine light blinking with no code.what do you think i should do next?

check you ecu. same problem happen to me in an izuzu rodeo. I let my fuel get to low and it sucked dirt into the filter and messed with that and it set off a code for the ecu and messed it up but if i had just replaced the ecu first i wouldnt have had to change the injectors or anything.
