Where is the brake relay on a 2001 gmc sierra.

Try wiggling the hazard light switch while pressing on the brakes. The taillights are connected to the turn signal switch before it goes to the brake switch. The contacts on the hazard switch are probably dirty(I remember this problem years ago, same symptoms-3rd light works but l/R tailights not working). You may just be able to turn the hazards on+off a bunch of times to clean the contacts instead of replacing the switch.

No break lights, high beams, or turn signal lights

Do they work intermittently? Do your low beams go out sometimes when you put on turn signal? Do hazards work sometimes and if you play with switch they work off and on? I just had a problem with headlights would go off if I put on turn signal and if I jiggled the turn lever they would come back on and had trouble with all light working intermittently, brakes, turn and hazard. It was a Turn signal switch problem. The contacts in the switch were bad, all corroded and green when I took it apart. I know you wouldn't think this would affect brake lights but hey all run through this switch because of hazards and high beams. I got a new switch from dealer and all is working great now. Here's a link a link I used for switch replacement instructions. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/write-up-replace-turn-signal-switch-97-xj-620147/
If it isn't a fuse or wiring issue I would look into the switch.

  1. Check the fuse make sure it is not busted and also use a designated amp only.
  2. Check the bulb and the wires also.

I have a 85 omni glh I blew my brake lights out I replaced the fuse but they still don't work , everything elae works on the car except the hazards , are the brake lights and the hazards connected...

yes they are. if your hazard flasher is bad and you happen to have the hazard switch turned on your brake lights wont work
put hazard switch in one position and check brake lights
then put in other position and check them
if they work with the hazard switch in one position leave switch olone and check fuses and put a new flasher for hazard in

1998 Lincoln TC no brake or hazard lights work.

Hazard light switch... They all intermingle in operation.
My ex wifes 96TC was doing the same thing... I could OCCASIONALLY get the hazards to work by turning the hazard switch on/off like 10 times in a row and suddenly it would fix... finally bought a new switch

Brake lights inop on my 88 T-bird

Check your brake light switch. If your car has cruse control, set it at a safe speed and step lightly on the brake pedal and release. If it doesnt disengage then brake light switch is bad.

No turn signals or brake lights on left and right but brake light on top

I agree. My brake light dont work. Only the third brake light does. The running lights work but when i apply the brakes the rear tails dont light up.
I currently have this issue along with the signals dont work unless I bang the top of the steering colum. The hazard switch doesnt work either. If the signals dont work it makes this very quick clicking sound on the passenger side. I checked the fuses and they are good. The bulbs still work. The brake switch works cause the third brake light goes on. And seeing as I am having a problem with signals.....GM says I have to replace the switch in the steerg colume. Its a little box about the size of a cigarette pack. If you take apart the panels off ( right behind the steering wheel, where the hazard switch is) ...that is where it is located. Its plugged into the signal lever. Hope this helpa....Good luck everyone with this issue.
