It sounds to me ( correct me if I'm wrong ) like the door latch on the side vertical edge of the door is in the LOCKED POSITION. In order to unlock it perform the following. First electrically with the LOCK button UNLOCK the locks. Now with one hand hold the OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE IN THE OPEN POSITION, while at the same time FLIPPING OPEN THE LATCH. All Done . Now you can close the door. Hope this helps

Car thinks door is closed, press "lock door" on key-fob to shut off all lights & have radio running. Remember to press "open Hatch" button on key- fob before actually closing hatch to automatically flip hatch latch back to the open position.

Power Passenger door will not stay shut when closed. It quickly re-opens itself. This is intermittent. It is working today!

Hi Elaine I want you to check 2 things the striker mounted on the body may be loose and moving inwards when you close your door and the door does not catch all the way leaving the door lock in the open position / or the plastic sleeve is missing on it ==if that's ok then go to the actual door lock itself and check it with a screw driver by pushing the lock jaws closed and pulling the door handle to see if it release's spray it with silicone spray/ PB blaster /WD-40 or any lubricant you have handy I really think the striker may have loosened and this is your problem but the actual door lock could have failed you say it works then it doesn't so that makes me feel that the striker has moved also check the door handles to make sure they are not stuck in the applied open position lubricant will help here also here's a couple of photo's for you
25682067-k5uxyrkmoeek2nkkvryslgv5-2-0.jpg<<<<<<<<<
check for the sleeve shown here<<< and check that the nut is tight and that the striker is not placed to far inward that the door lock can not close on it if it is to far in it will grab sometimes and not all the time and the door will be open look for metal scraping marks where it is located if it moved you will see these and also the original marks on the door post where it was originally installed
open the handle and spray lubricant in to make sure the handle is not staying stuck in the open position
25682067-k5uxyrkmoeek2nkkvryslgv5-2-5.jpg
spray the handle through the opening when you pull the lever to make sure that it is not staying in the open position
25682067-k5uxyrkmoeek2nkkvryslgv5-2-9.jpg<<<<<<<<<<<< check the lock jaws by pushing with the screw driver and pulling the door handle to observe the lock function and lubricate here<<<<<<<< I the lock is not functioning you have to get a new one I hope this helped you out Good Luck

Door on 95 geo metro 4 door won't close because the child proof lock in on and I can't get it to go off. Door won't stay shut. Any ideas how to fix this?

Your childproof lock have nothing to do with the latch not closing. It only makes it where you can not open the door from the inside. I would think you are in need of a new latch.

Here's something that might help you. Look at the door theres a little hook that grabs the striker on car, hold the door handle "open" and move the hook to the open position try to close the door. That should solve your problem. Hope that helps you.

Door lock staying locked so door cant clamp on to the striker

Hello and welcome to FIXYA, it sounds like you have two problems, first the door ajar switches in your truck are sticking, and causing the ajar light to remain on, and second the door lock actuator is shorted and getting stuck in the lock position. To repair the switches, obtain a can of brake cleaner and spray the door latch of each door for about 3 to 5 seconds, then open and close the door 10 times to work the cleaner into the switches. To fix the lock problem, you must first pull up on the knob in the door panel to unlock it. Then remove the door panel, and replace the door lock actuator.

2003 Explorer door ajar light stay on when all doors are closed

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.
