Does this van have a carrier bearing in the center of the driveshaft? If it does this could be your culprit, you can tell if it has a carrier bearing by looking at the drive shaft in the middle it will around the driveshaft and bolted to floor support of the van.

Try this article. I have the same problem and I think it is the vacuum motor that controls the door for changing from hot/cold in the rear heater box (located inside behind the L rear wheel)

SOURCE: 1994 Ford E350 transmission seems like it slips at 45-55 MPH.

If you went 1k miles since that same issue occurred I would look at the transmission. A faulty torque converter, clogged fuel filter, or a clogged CAT can cause a delay in the shifting but it would happen right away not 1k miles later.

You need to remove the trans pan to inspect the parking pawl and rod. Hopefully you can adjust or repair with trans in your vehicle.

Also don't assume your cable etc is okey. You don't know that. You may be able to adjust it and be okey.

Testimonial: "Thankyou very much for this insight of a simple adjustment that may save me hundreds of dollars. Insights like this save me hours of time plus money."

1) Is it a tilt column?

2) Do you use the tilt feature?

Sounds like it's in the column, which is very common for Fords around this time.

You can also expect to eventually have to push the column shifter up into the park position (even though it's in park), to start the vehicle; have to pull the shifter towards you to use the overdrive cutout function, and all kinds of fun stuff like that.

Hi, you are on the right track with the shifter cable, when the shifter cable goes bad it stretches out and doesnt allow the transmission all the way up into park. these cables arent to hard to replace but do require some moderate interior disassembly. if you do not feel comfortable with this repair you should take it to a repair shop. also the shifter cables can sometimes only be found at the dealer which is a little pricey.

The shifter is stuck in park. I can't seem to get it to shift out of park. I have tried everything. Please help!

The shifter inter-lock is controlled by the switch on the brake pedal lever, and it rleases the shifer when the ignition is on and the brake pedal is depressed.

Check all of the fuses, and check the wires at the switch on the brake pedal lever, I have actually found in several vehicles that the wires are broken right inside of the wire connector to the brake switch.

If all of that checks out alright then the shifter inter-lock might need to be replaced.

there is a cable attached to your transmission that is actuated with that lever. the cable has come disconected or has broken. open your hood and look for cable on top of your transmission to see if it is worn.broken ect. helps to have somebody move lever while u locate it if you are not sure what you are looking for.

Replace the automatic shifter cable

I had a similiar problem on my 1996 Escort wagon. The shifter was stuck in park. There is a lil plastic circle to the right of the shifer. Get a small screwdriver and pry off the cap. Then insert a small screwdriver into the hole to see if you can release the mechanism. (by pressing down) If it is frozen like mine was, just remove the 2 screws on the shifter handle one on the side and the other on the side facing the radio. Then remove the 6 screws on the console. Remove the console, in 2 pieces...piece by the parking break first then the larger part that sets over the PRNDL if the lever is frozen and rusted like mine was get some penatrant like WD-40 or liquid wrench....squirt it into the base of the shifter and try to work the mechanism forward and reverse...Note: there is a safety mechanism that holds the shifter in position but will release when you step on the brake pedal. Hope this info helps.
