Look for the inline fuse link in the red wire from the battery . It looks like something was spliced into the wire. It's the fuselink.

SOURCE: can't remove key from ignition 2001 gmc jimmy

I dont know how much help this will be, but I'll offer it and let you be the judge.

Ive had this issue before in a different GM vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Prix. The issue turned out to be that the voltage from the battery was low due to corroded terminals. Once that was cleaned up and the voltage restored to normal, the key came out. Come to find out that this was a common issue in that vehicle, voltage goes low, you cant remove the key.

Now, on my vehicle and since yours is a GM product as well I will assume it will hold true for your vehicle too, there is a small hole on the bottom side of the column right in the area of where the ignition key cylinder is. If you have this, you can take a small tool like an allen wrench and push it up in there and that will press on a release mechanism that should allow you to turn the key back to its release position and pull the key out.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: how do i bypass security on 98 gmc jimmy 4.3

Hi: Sounds to me like you tried to start the vehicle with something disconnected in the security system. If this is the case the solution is simple. Put key in ignition and turn to the on position, leave on for EXACTLY 30 minutes... then take key out, wait 5 minutes then start vehicle. Hope this helps... please rate suggestion... ty

SOURCE: 2002 GMC Envoy, i put the key in ignition and

Ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Next time it happens wiggle thekeys in the ignition switch and try to restart. If it starts its probably the ignition switch. Then locate neutral safety switch on brake pedal and put meter on B+ wire from switch to starter relay and see if you get B+ on the would -be- crank. Next locate B+ wire from starter relay to starter hook a meter to it and see if you get B+ on the would -be crank.
Where ever B+ is missing is your problem.

It wont start not even a sound i have lights

Check for power at the big cable on the starter motor. The little wire should have power when key held in start posision. If have power to them have someone hold key in start poss & give starter solinoid a knock with hamer if no go knock starter body. If go when knocked need new starter

2001 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3L V6 auto trans. Will not turn over

The starter relay may have a bad connection, this is where your battery connects, and a power wire runs to the starter, also these have a ignition wire which is approx 14-16 gauge wire. The relay could be cracked or the contacts inside are going bad. But the other is the neutral safety switch that you mention. I would check these first.

Won't start

check the IAT(intake air temperature)sensor, if its bad may cause a no start situation and flooding, also check foe fuses to the ignition system and voltage to the coils

2000 gmc starter not turning when key is turned ....no sound at all... plenty of battery power??

Are all your connections on battery clean and tight and also on starter and does all other lights work? If they do then it could be the ignition switch, if you got another person, take a test light and hold it on the small post on starter while the other person turns key to start position, if it don't light test light its the ignition switch, if it does it could be starter.

Start up problems.

Hi FrostyRage.
I believe your remote start is jumping where your problem area is. I believe it to be somewhere in the wiring leading away from your ignition switch, best guess that I have.
