Hello. It seems your Pontiac's catalytic converter is clogged; can't breathe. Some vehicles do not give a 'warning' their catalytic converter is clogging until its too late. Clogging catalytic converters causes missing, hesitation and stalling. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

If the engine overheats, the computer will turn the ac off. However, on GM vehicles, the thermostat can be bad, not letting the engine get warm enough, and causing the same problem. I would replace the thermostat.

Well the computer activates the relay for the fans when needed. You should be able to jumper the relay to check the fan operation. The fans come on when the ac pressure reaches 200psi or so, not as soon as you turn the ac on.
