Hi Guys!
I work in a transmission and torque converter remanufacturing plant and have seen this many times! I hate to tell you that your transmission is shot! There is metal in the fluid and some of it got caught in a solenoid not letting fluid through to shift the gears. You will need a rebuild! About $2500 dollars. Of course if you in Pittsburgh, Pa. area I could do it for about half that. Any questions e-mail me at [email protected]

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

Is a Throttle Position Sensor the same thing as a Transmission control Module

The TPS ( THOTTLE POSITION SENSOR) tells the engine computer and trans how far you are pushing the gas pedal. Its mounted on the side of the thottle body. It will make the engine surge if it is failing. Have replaced this part many times for this problem. TCM (TRANS CONTROL MODULE) control trans shifting. The tps is and one of the input sensor for shifting.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, automatic,4.0, 4x4, - Makes a jerking motion almost as if it goes out of gear for 2 seconds and kicks back in). But it only does it on SHARP left hand turns only. It changes gears...

Check your transmission fluid level. If the unit is low, the oil sloshes away from the pickup and a burp of air runs through the unit causing momentary slippage. if you go around the same turn slower that doesn't happen. In rare cases an internal shaft bushing or seal can be bad and the shaft can move having the same result...but as I said, that's rare.

Could be low fluid, burnt fluid, or worn one-way clutch or brakebands.

Best to let an autobox specialist try it out and give you a full opinion.

Shifting lever doesnt lock

Likely the shift detent mechanism is broken. It's inside the unit and can be reached by removing the trans pan. It should be just inside where the shift lever goes through the case.
