SOURCE: NO FUEL GOING TO ENGINE, BUT ENGINE WANTS TO TURN OVER

Hi

Have you flushed out all of the old unleaded fuel from the system and fitted a new fuel filter? Unleaded fuel only lasts for a very short while before going off. You need to flush out the tank and the fuel lines and then put fresh fuel in the tank and fit a new fuel filter or you could be leading yourself on a wild goose chase.

Do you hear the fuel pump running for a second or two when you switch on the ignition? If not then you need to check the fuel pump positive terminal for battery voltage with a volt meter whilst someone switches on the ignition for you, and check the fuel pump negative terminal to ensure it is properly earthed.

If you have a live and an earth at the pump but the pump still isn't running then you need to renew the fuel pump.

If these suggestions don't solve your problem then I'll need to know what size engine is in the car before I advise you further.

Regards

Geordie

there is sensor in distributor called hall sensor ,this generates the pulse for your spark.this is probably faulty.

SOURCE: 1988 VW FOX no power to fuel pump and fuel pump relay

Things to check if not already done so:

Are you getting fuel up to the engine when the fuel pump is running ?
Is the battery fully charged ?
When the engine is cranking over are you getting at least 9 volts at the coil ?
Are you getting a spark at the plugs ?

Just for a bit of back ground :
Was the car running before this problem or has it been lying up for a while?

1995 toyota tacoma 2.4 liter, cranks but no start, got fuel, got air, no spark. changed cap, rotor, and coil still no spark.

did you get the plug wires on correctly. check any electrical connections you may have undone. check for codes. it may be coincidental that you lost spark and a sensor may have gone bad.

Replaced rotor and distributor cap started right away, drove 3 miles stop 2 hr won't start cranks fine what next

Re-Check the wires. One may have come loose. For external coils, check there first. Next, make sure that the rotor is properly seated inside the cap on the Distributor.
Did you also replace any of the spark plugs?
It could also be completely unrelated. Haha. Check for fuel pump operations, and that you are getting fuel. Its either air/fuel/spark.
But definitely check the wires and rotor. Hopefully you put the securing screw back in.

Best of luck, mate.

87 ford aerostar 3.0 v6. Would run great then die. Start again when it cooled some. Checked for spark when it was not starting found none. Chased the rabbit replacing the ignition module which was bad also...

If it will start by using starting fluid sprayed into the intake, you have a fuel problem. If it won't, you may have a spark problem.
Something that fails when it gets hot could be a relay or other electrical component. Could also be a dist cap or rotor issue.

1992 ford f-150 cranks wont start

I believe that motor still uses a distributor cap, rotor, and seperate coil...it has to be no spark...inspect the cap and rotor for hairline cracks...remove the coil, (Connected to center wire on distributor cap) and have tested...Hope this helps.

Hi, Ok you have confirmed that it's not a fuel problem. You need to check for spark. Pull the coil wire off of the coil(secondary lead-looks like a spark plug wire) Have some one crank it over and listen for a popping sound. IF yes, spark is at the coil, that means all ignition sensors are working. Next check for spark at ends of wires after cap. IF no replace cap and rotor. IF yes remove a couple spark plugs and check for fouling(wet, fuel etc...) IF yes replace or clean plugs and retest for starting. IF no spark is present at coil you need to scan computer and watch for rpm signal. IF no rpm signal, replace crankshaft sensor with OEM delco part. BIGGEST problem with these engines is Cap and Rotor burn out.
