1994 ford escort vibrates horribly in idle, does not stall. Idle is set @ 800rpm, runs smooth when raised to about 1200rpm. Suggestions?

    yes

If you are positive there are no leaks, it's time to start checking sensors...a code scan may or may not be helpful (many larger parts stores do it for free) there are a number of tests that can be done with a decent digital volt/ohmeter...Instructions can be found in chilton or haynes. First place I'd look is at mass air flow sensor and idle control valve...but without testing things can get really expensive without solving the problem.

Your Idle air control valve is probably going bad. It is located on the throttle body and is a relatively easy fix as it is only held in with 2 screws. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!

2003 Ford Explorer XLT Wants To Stall At Low Idle,, especially when at a stop light

How does it idle in park , does it run ruff or smooth? Are any lights lit on the dash , check engine etc. ? Could have a partially plugged IAC air passage .idle air control (IAC) valve ! The engine computer uses the IAC to control idle , when under a load such as when put into gear the computer raises the idle ! It does this by allowing more air to by pass the closed throttle into the engine raising the idle ! If these air passages clog they restrict the air flow an cause a idle problem ! Now if it runs ruff at idle in park you could have vacuum leak ! Rough Idle How to Fix Ford Taurus Engine Stalls at Stop Signs

Low idle, engine vibration

I see this is an older question, but in case someone is having the same problem, here goes.
Besides the things above, I'd pull a spark plug, check it. Could just need a tune up, or you could have just a single cracked plug. One bad plug or bad spark cable will cause what you described. I always like to start with the simplest/cheapest solution. A tune up with new cables won't hurt anyway.

This rough idle business; With the AC on at a stop, the idle is about 600 to 700 rpm and vibrates the cabin. Can the dealer change a computer setting to correct this?

Problem on focus too . Without A/C on it idle's smooth . With A/C on the PCM - engine computer should raise the idle rpm. 850 . The only way to raise the idle would be to have PCM flashed programmed with up dated software . Adjusting the idle anyother way would cause check engine light problem , Wouldn't be able to get it to go out. Your best bet ,take it to the ford dealer and have the PCM reflashed .

1997 ford escort idles rough when hot

1997 escort idles rough, the first thing is to make sure the throtlebody plate is clean. This sounds like the idle may be staying to low at times if it smooths out with ac on, when the ac is turnned on the computer raises the idle a touch to make up for the strain on the engine from the ac compressor, clean throtlebody and look at and clean idle air control valve, if this valve is not controlling the idle when needed the engine will idle lower than normal and cause a rough idle.
Another thing is the sparkplug wires, take a look at those, if at night or with a good eye use a spray bottle and spray a mist over the wires and watch for any sparking, this spark may be very small so look at each wire closely or may be big enough to see and hear. this is where i would start. good day.

2001 Nissan Maxima- runs rough, stalls when idle

Timing belt could have skipped a tooth.

Horrible vacuum leak could have started. Listen for suction noises when you raise the hood.

Someone could have poured sugar in your tank.

You could have put diesel in your tank instead of gas.

Could be a bad MAP sensor, TPS sensor, etc.

Need more details to be precise.

Car runs horribly in idle, wants to stall when its not getting any gas.

Clean the Idle Air Control Valve and the Throttle Valve with carb spray, it that doesn't help replace the IAC. You do this with the engine running, have someone hold the idle up or it will stall out, then disconnect negative batt cable for 5 minutes, this should cure the issue.
